Important Safety Instructions

Setup
1. Unpacking and Initial Cleaning
- Remove all packaging materials and promotional labels from the coffee maker.
- Wash the removable water tank, filter basket, and drip tray in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth.
2. Water Filter Installation
The KRUPS KM9008 includes a DuoFilter water filtration system to improve coffee taste. Refer to the filter packaging for specific installation instructions. Typically, the filter is placed in a designated compartment within the water tank.
3. First Use / Priming
- Fill the water tank with fresh, cold water up to the 12-cup mark.
- Place an empty filter basket into its holder. Do not add coffee grounds for this initial cycle.
- Close the lid securely.
- Place a large cup or container under the dispensing spout.
- Press the ON/OFF button to start a brewing cycle. Allow the full cycle to complete.
- Discard the hot water. This process cleans the internal components and prepares the machine for coffee brewing.
Operating Instructions
1. Adding Water
- Open the top lid of the coffee maker.
- Remove the stainless steel water tank.
- Fill the tank with fresh, cold water to the desired level, observing the water level window. The maximum capacity is 12 cups.
- Return the water tank to its position and close the lid.

2. Adding Coffee Grounds
- Open the top lid.
- Place a paper filter (size #6 cone filter) or a reusable gold-tone filter into the filter basket.
- Add the desired amount of ground coffee. A general guideline is one tablespoon of ground coffee per cup, adjusted to personal preference.
- Ensure the filter basket is properly seated and close the lid.
3. Brewing Coffee
- Ensure water and coffee grounds are loaded.
- Press the ON/OFF button to begin the brewing cycle. The display will indicate brewing status.
- To select a stronger brew, press the STRONG button before brewing.
- The coffee maker will automatically keep the coffee warm for up to 4 hours after brewing. The countdown timer on the display shows how long the coffee has been kept warm.

4. Dispensing Coffee
- Place your cup on the adjustable drip tray. The tray can be set to three different heights to accommodate various cup sizes, including travel mugs.
- Press the SMALL button for a smaller serving or the LARGE button for a larger serving.
- Alternatively, press and hold the MANUAL button to dispense coffee continuously. Release the button when your cup is filled to the desired level.

5. Programming Auto-Start
The KM9008 allows you to program two different auto-start times for weekday and weekend brewing.
- Press the PROG button. The display will show "P1" or "P2".
- Use the H (Hour) and MIN (Minute) buttons to set the desired auto-start time for the selected program (P1 or P2).
- Press PROG again to confirm the time and move to the next program or exit programming mode.
- To activate an auto-start program, ensure the coffee maker is loaded with water and coffee, then press the corresponding AUTO START button (1 or 2). The indicator light will illuminate.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your coffee maker.
1. Daily Cleaning
- Always unplug the coffee maker before cleaning and allow it to cool completely.
- Remove and empty the filter basket. Wash it in warm, soapy water or place it on the top rack of a dishwasher.
- Remove the water tank and rinse it thoroughly. If necessary, wash with warm, soapy water.
- Clean the drip tray and its cover with warm, soapy water.
- Wipe the exterior surfaces of the coffee maker with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
2. Descaling
Mineral deposits from water can build up over time and affect performance. Descale your coffee maker regularly, depending on water hardness and frequency of use (e.g., every 2-3 months).
- Prepare a descaling solution according to the manufacturer's instructions (e.g., white vinegar and water, or a commercial descaling agent).
- Pour the solution into the water tank.
- Run a brewing cycle without coffee grounds.
- After the cycle, run 2-3 cycles with fresh, clean water to rinse the system thoroughly.
3. Water Filter Replacement
The DuoFilter water filter should be replaced approximately every 2 months or after 60 brewing cycles, whichever comes first, to maintain optimal water quality and coffee taste. Refer to the filter packaging for specific replacement instructions.
