2. Safety Information

WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions can result in severe injury or death. This product must be installed and serviced by a qualified pool professional in accordance with all applicable local and national codes.

  • Always disconnect power to the pump before servicing the filter.
  • Do not operate the filter if any part is damaged or missing.
  • Ensure the filter is properly secured and all connections are tight before operating.
  • Never exceed the maximum operating pressure of the filter. Refer to the product label for details.
  • Keep children away from pool equipment.
  • Properly dispose of all packaging materials.

3. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the efficient and safe operation of your Hayward C3030 filter. It is recommended that installation be performed by a qualified pool professional.

3.1 Site Selection

Choose a level, well-drained area for the filter, preferably out of direct sunlight and away from any heat sources. Ensure there is adequate space around the filter for maintenance and servicing. The filter should be installed as close to the pool as possible to minimize friction loss from plumbing.

3.2 Plumbing Connections

  1. Connect the pool pump discharge to the filter's inlet port and the filtered water return to the pool's return line.
  2. Ensure all plumbing connections are sealed properly to prevent leaks.
  3. Connect the 1-1/2-inch integral drain to a suitable waste line or drainage area.

3.3 Cartridge Installation and Tank Assembly

  1. Ensure the filter cartridges are correctly seated within the tank's low-profile base.
  2. Place the top half of the filter tank onto the bottom half, aligning the two sections.
  3. Lubricate the large O-ring seal with a silicone-based lubricant at least once per year to maintain its integrity and prevent leaks.
  4. Position the manifold girdle clamp around the two halves of the tank.
  5. Gently tap the top of the filter tank with a rubber mallet to ensure the O-ring is properly seated.
  6. Tap the girdle clamp inwards towards the center, all around, with a rubber mallet to help seat the two halves and ensure the seal is properly engaged.
  7. Install and tighten the nut and bolt on the girdle clamp securely. Do not overtighten.

3.4 Initial Startup

  1. Ensure all valves are in the open position allowing water flow to the filter.
  2. Open the air relief valve located on the top of the filter.
  3. Start the pool pump.
  4. Once a steady stream of water emerges from the air relief valve, close the valve.
  5. Note the initial pressure gauge reading. This is your clean filter operating pressure.

4. Operating Instructions

Operating your Hayward C3030 filter is straightforward once installed correctly.

4.1 Normal Operation

With the pump running and the air relief valve closed, the filter will continuously clean your pool water. Monitor the pressure gauge regularly. The initial pressure reading taken during startup is the "clean filter" pressure. As dirt accumulates in the cartridges, the pressure will rise.

4.2 When to Clean the Filter

Clean the filter cartridges when the pressure gauge reading rises 8-10 PSI above the clean filter operating pressure, or when pool water clarity diminishes. Unlike sand filters, this cartridge filter does not require backwashing.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficiency of your filter system.

5.1 Cartridge Cleaning

  1. Turn off the pool pump and disconnect power.
  2. Open the air relief valve and the integral drain valve to relieve pressure and drain the tank.
  3. Remove the girdle clamp and carefully lift the top half of the filter tank.
  4. Remove the dirty filter cartridges.
  5. Clean the cartridges thoroughly using a garden hose with a high-pressure nozzle. Work from top to bottom, ensuring all debris is removed from the pleats. Specialized cartridge cleaning tools can also be used.
  6. For stubborn dirt or oils, soak cartridges in a chemical cartridge cleaner solution according to the cleaner's instructions.
  7. Rinse thoroughly and reinstall the clean cartridges.
  8. Reassemble the filter tank following the steps in Section 3.3 and restart the system as per Section 3.4.

5.2 O-Ring Maintenance

Inspect the large O-ring seal for cracks or wear during each cleaning. Lubricate it annually with a silicone-based lubricant to maintain its flexibility and sealing capability.

5.3 Winterization

In areas subject to freezing temperatures, the filter must be winterized to prevent damage:

  • Turn off the pump and disconnect power.
  • Drain all water from the filter tank by opening the integral drain valve.
  • Remove and clean the filter cartridges. Store them in a dry, protected area.
  • Leave the drain valve open and the air relief valve slightly open to prevent water from accumulating inside the tank.

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Hayward C3030 filter.

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Water Leaking from Tank Girdle Improperly seated O-ring or girdle clamp; damaged O-ring. Turn off pump, relieve pressure. Re-seat O-ring and girdle clamp (refer to Section 3.3). Lubricate O-ring. Replace O-ring if damaged.
Cloudy Pool Water Dirty filter cartridges; chemical imbalance; damaged cartridges. Clean filter cartridges (refer to Section 5.1). Test and adjust pool chemistry. Inspect cartridges for damage and replace if necessary.
Low Water Flow / High Pressure Clogged filter cartridges. Clean filter cartridges (refer to Section 5.1).
Manifold Cracks Material fatigue; excessive pressure; manufacturing defect. This is a serious issue. Discontinue use immediately and contact Hayward customer support for assistance.
Damaged Pressure Gauge Impact damage; internal failure. Contact Hayward customer support for a replacement pressure gauge.
