4. Setup and Installation
Tools Required: Screwdriver set, wrench set, pliers, gas leak detector (optional but recommended).
4.1. Preparation
- Turn off the main power supply to the pool/spa heater at the circuit breaker.
- Shut off the gas supply to the heater.
- Allow the heater to cool completely if it has been in operation.
4.2. Removal of Old Air Blower
- Locate the existing air blower on your MasterTemp 300 heater.
- Disconnect any wiring connected to the blower motor. Note the wiring configuration for reinstallation.
- Carefully disconnect the pressure switch tubing from the blower.
- Remove the mounting screws securing the old blower to the heater housing.
- Gently remove the old air blower and gasket.
4.3. Installation of New Air Blower
- Ensure the mounting surface on the heater is clean and free of debris.
- Place the new gasket onto the mounting flange of the new air blower.
- Position the new air blower assembly onto the heater housing, aligning the mounting holes.
- Secure the blower with the provided mounting hardware. Tighten screws evenly, but do not overtighten.
- Reconnect the wiring to the new blower motor, matching the configuration noted during removal. Ensure connections are secure and correct.
- Connect the new pressure switch tubing to the appropriate ports on the blower and the pressure switch.
- If replacing the pressure switch, install the new one and connect its tubing as per the heater's service manual.
4.4. Post-Installation Checks
- Verify all connections (electrical, gas, tubing) are secure and properly seated.
- Turn on the gas supply and check for leaks using a gas leak detector or soapy water solution at all gas connections.
- Restore power to the heater at the circuit breaker.
- Initiate a heating cycle and observe the blower's operation and heater ignition.
5. Operation
The air blower is an integral component of the heater's combustion system. It provides the necessary airflow for proper fuel combustion. Once installed correctly, the heater's control system will automatically manage the blower's operation during the heating cycle. The blower will activate before ignition to purge the combustion chamber and maintain optimal airflow during burner operation.
- Ensure the heater's exhaust vent is clear of obstructions for optimal blower performance and safe operation.
- Listen for smooth operation of the blower during startup and heating cycles.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and efficiency of your air blower and heater system.
- Annual Inspection: Annually inspect the air blower for any signs of wear, damage, corrosion, or unusual noise.
- Clearance: Keep the area around the heater clear to ensure proper airflow to the blower's intake.
- Tubing Check: Periodically check the pressure switch tubing for cracks, kinks, or blockages that could affect pressure readings.
- Cleaning: If accessible and safe, gently clean any debris from the blower's intake screen to prevent airflow restriction. Ensure power is disconnected before cleaning.
7. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your heater after installing the air blower, consider the following:
- Heater not igniting: Check if the blower is operating when the heater attempts to start. A faulty blower, incorrect wiring, or a malfunctioning pressure switch can prevent ignition.
- Unusual noise from blower: This may indicate a failing motor bearing or an obstruction within the blower housing. Disconnect power and inspect carefully.
- Error codes related to airflow/pressure switch: Verify all tubing connections are secure and free of leaks or blockages. Ensure the blower is functioning correctly and providing adequate airflow.
- No power to blower: Check electrical connections and ensure the heater's control board is supplying power.
Note: For complex issues or if troubleshooting steps do not resolve the problem, consult a qualified service technician. Do not attempt repairs beyond your technical capability.
