3. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Jura ENA 9. The machine features integrated rinsing, cleaning, and descaling programs.

3.1. Daily Cleaning

  • Rinsing the Milk System: After preparing milk specialties, it is crucial to rinse the milk system. The machine has a dedicated cleaning cycle for this. Two separate pipe systems for coffee and milk ensure perfect results and easy cleanup.

  • Emptying the Grounds Container and Drip Tray: The machine will prompt you when the coffee grounds container needs to be emptied. It is recommended to empty and clean the drip tray and grounds container regularly, ideally after every 3-4 drinks, or when prompted. Failure to do so may cause the machine to indicate the container is full prematurely.

  • Refilling Water and Beans: The water tank and bean hopper have smaller capacities due to the machine's compact design. Refill them as needed to ensure continuous operation. It is recommended to use fresh water and beans for each use.

3.2. Weekly/Periodic Cleaning

  • Milk System Cleaning: In addition to daily rinsing, perform a thorough cleaning of the milk system weekly using Jura's proprietary cappuccino cleaning liquid. This prevents milk residue buildup.

  • Descaling: The machine will indicate when descaling is required. Use Jura descaling tablets and follow the on-screen instructions. Using filtered water or an in-tank Jura filter can reduce the frequency of descaling.

  • Brew Unit Cleaning: The machine has an integrated cleaning program for the brew unit. Follow the prompts and use Jura cleaning tablets as instructed.

4. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Jura ENA 9 One Touch.

  • "Empty Grounds Container" message appears frequently: This can occur if the grounds container is not emptied and reinserted within a few seconds, or if coffee pucks are not falling correctly. Ensure the container is fully emptied and the drip tray is also clean. Wipe the small mesh grill outlet inside the unit above the grounds container.

  • Water tank or bean hopper needs frequent refilling: This is a characteristic of the compact ENA series. Regular refilling is part of normal operation. Consider keeping a small pitcher of water and a bean container nearby for convenience.

  • Milk frother not producing good foam: Ensure the milk system is thoroughly cleaned daily and weekly. Use fresh, cold milk. Check that all milk system components are correctly assembled and not clogged. The machine's milk system is designed for microfoam; if manual frothing is desired, an external frother may be considered as the ENA 9 does not have a manual steam wand.

  • Machine prompts for rinse on startup: This is normal behavior, especially if the machine has been off for a period or if the auto shut-off feature is enabled. Allow the machine to complete its rinse cycle.

  • Coffee tastes bitter: Ensure the internal mesh grill outlet above the grounds container is clean. Adjust coffee strength settings if necessary.

  • General Error Messages: Refer to the machine's display for specific error codes or messages. If the issue persists after following on-screen instructions, contact Jura customer support.
