AcuRite Notos 3-in-1 Weather Station

Model: 00638A2

Introduction

The AcuRite Notos 3-in-1 Weather Station provides comprehensive weather information directly to your home. This system includes an outdoor sensor that measures wind speed, outdoor temperature, and humidity, transmitting data wirelessly to an indoor display unit. Key features include patented self-calibrating forecasting and an atomic clock for accurate timekeeping.

Setup

1. Battery Installation

  • The system requires 7 AA batteries (not included).
  • Install batteries into the outdoor sensor first, ensuring correct polarity.
  • Install batteries into the indoor display unit, ensuring correct polarity.
  • Allow a few minutes for the sensor and display unit to establish a connection.

2. Outdoor Sensor Placement

  • Mount the 3-in-1 sensor in an open area to ensure accurate wind, temperature, and humidity readings.
  • Ensure the sensor is at least 5 feet (1.5 meters) off the ground.
  • Avoid placing the sensor near heat sources (e.g., exhaust vents, air conditioning units) or obstructions that could block wind flow or sunlight.
  • For optimal wind measurement, mount the sensor on a sturdy pole (e.g., a metal pole) to prevent swaying. A 3/4-inch diameter pole is recommended.
  • Secure the sensor to the pole using the provided mounting hardware. Note that the set screws for mounting are small and require a precision Phillips head screwdriver for tightening.

3. Indoor Display Unit Setup

  • Place the display unit indoors, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Ensure the display unit is within range of the outdoor sensor (enhanced 433 MHz signal).
  • The atomic clock feature will automatically synchronize the time for consistent accuracy.

Operating Instructions

Display Unit Overview

The LCD display provides various weather metrics. Information includes future forecast, barometric pressure, moon phase, wind speed (peak and average), outdoor temperature, outdoor humidity, and indoor temperature/humidity. The display also features a history graph for barometric pressure, temperature, and wind speed.

Buttons and Functions

  • SET: Used to enter setup mode for time, date, and other settings.
  • +: Used to adjust values during setup or to cycle through display options.
  • HISTORY MODE: Cycles through historical data for barometric pressure, temperature, and wind speed.
  • SCALE: Changes the unit of measurement (e.g., Fahrenheit/Celsius, mph/km/h).
  • MIN/MAX: Displays the minimum and maximum recorded values for various metrics.

Reading Data

  • Future Forecast: The patented self-calibrating forecasting system analyzes changes in barometric pressure to generate a personalized forecast for your location.
  • Wind Speed: Displays current, peak, and average wind speeds. Data updates approximately every 20-30 seconds.
  • Temperature & Humidity: Shows current outdoor and indoor temperature and humidity levels.
  • Barometric Pressure: Indicates atmospheric pressure trends.
  • Moon Phase: Displays the current phase of the moon.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement

  • Replace batteries in both the outdoor sensor and indoor display unit when the low battery indicator appears.
  • For optimal performance in cold climates, use lithium batteries in the outdoor sensor.

Cleaning

  • Wipe the display unit and outdoor sensor with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Periodically check the outdoor sensor for debris (e.g., leaves, spiderwebs) that might obstruct the wind cups or temperature/humidity sensors.

Weather Resistance

The outdoor sensor is designed with durable, weather-resistant construction. However, extreme weather conditions may affect its longevity. Ensure proper mounting to withstand strong winds.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible Solution
No outdoor sensor data on display.Ensure batteries are correctly installed in both units. Verify the outdoor sensor is within range of the display unit. Relocate units closer if necessary. Check for strong interference sources (e.g., large metal objects, other wireless devices).
Inaccurate temperature readings.Ensure the outdoor sensor is not in direct sunlight or near heat sources. Solar radiation can cause readings to be 2-3 degrees higher than actual ambient temperature during the day.
Display is difficult to read. The display is optimized for viewing slightly downwards. Adjust the viewing angle. This model does not feature a backlight.
Wind speed readings seem inconsistent or miss gusts.Wind speed data updates every 20-30 seconds. Brief gusts between update cycles may not be captured. Ensure the sensor is mounted in an unobstructed location.
