AcuRite Digital Wireless Fridge and Freezer Thermometer

Model: 00986M

Brand: AcuRite

Introduction

The AcuRite Digital Wireless Fridge and Freezer Thermometer is designed to help you monitor the internal temperature of your refrigerator and freezer, ensuring your food is stored safely and efficiently. This system includes a main digital display unit and two wireless remote temperature sensors.

The display unit provides real-time temperature readings from both sensors, along with maximum and minimum temperature records. Customizable alarms alert you audibly and visually if temperatures fall outside your desired range, helping to prevent food spoilage due to open doors or appliance malfunctions.

What's in the Box

  • Digital Thermometer Display Unit
  • Two (2) Wireless Temperature Sensors
  • Instruction Manual

Setup Guide

1. Battery Installation

  • Digital Display Unit: Open the battery compartment on the back of the display unit. Insert 2 AAA alkaline batteries (not included), observing the correct polarity (+/-). Close the battery compartment.
  • Wireless Temperature Sensors: Open the battery compartment on each sensor. Insert 2 AA alkaline or lithium batteries (not included) into each sensor, observing the correct polarity (+/-). Lithium batteries are recommended for temperatures below 4°F (-20°C). Close the battery compartments.

2. Sensor Placement

The wireless sensors are designed for versatile placement within your refrigerator and freezer. Each sensor features an integrated suction cup and a clip for easy mounting.

  • Using the Suction Cup: Attach the sensor to a clean, smooth surface inside your fridge or freezer, such as the interior wall or a glass shelf.
  • Using the Clip: Clip the sensor onto a wire shelf or basket within your appliance.

Place one sensor in the refrigerator compartment and the other in the freezer compartment. Ensure they are positioned where they can accurately measure the ambient air temperature, away from direct airflow vents or food items that might block readings.

3. Display Unit Placement

The digital display unit can be conveniently placed outside your refrigerator or freezer for easy viewing.

  • Magnetic Mounting: The display unit has an integrated magnet on its back, allowing it to securely attach to the front or side of most refrigerators or freezers.
  • Keyhole Mounting: Use the integrated keyhole on the back of the unit to hang it on a wall using a screw (not included).

Once batteries are installed in both the display and sensors, the units will automatically attempt to connect and display temperature readings.

Max/Min Temperature Records

The display unit records the maximum and minimum temperatures reached by each sensor since the last reset. These records are displayed alongside the current temperature.

  • To view the maximum temperature, press the '+' button.
  • To view the minimum temperature, press the '-' button.
  • To clear the Max/Min records, press and hold the 'CLR' button for approximately 3 seconds.

Setting Temperature Alarms

The programmable alarm feature notifies you if the temperature in either compartment goes above or below your set range.

  • Press the bell icon button next to the sensor you wish to set an alarm for.
  • Use the '+' and '-' buttons to adjust the desired high and low temperature thresholds.
  • Press the bell icon button again to confirm and activate the alarm settings.
  • If the temperature exceeds or drops below the set thresholds, the alarm will sound and a visual indicator will flash on the display.
  • To silence the alarm, press any button on the display unit.

Key Features

  • Dual Temperature Monitoring: Includes one refrigerator thermometer and one freezer thermometer that transmit readings to the wireless digital display.
  • Easy-to-Read LCD Display: The wireless temperature monitor gauge features a large, clear LCD display for quick and convenient temperature checks.
  • Versatile Mounting Options: The display unit has magnetic backing for simple fridge or freezer mounting and a keyhole for easy wall mounting. Each remote sensor has an integrated suction cup and clip for flexible internal placement.
  • Customizable Temperature Alarms: Set personalized high and low temperature alerts. The system provides audible and visual notifications when temperatures are out of range, helping to prevent food spoilage.
  • Max/Min Records: Track the highest and lowest temperatures recorded for each compartment over time.
  • Wide Temperature Range: Each wireless temperature monitor sensor can measure temperatures from -40°F to 100°F (-40°C to 37°C).

Maintenance

Cleaning

Wipe the display unit and sensors clean with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or submerge the units in water.

Battery Replacement

Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display unit. Ensure to use the correct battery types (AAA for display, AA for sensors) and observe polarity.

Troubleshooting

No Temperature Readings / Flashing Dashes

  • Ensure batteries are correctly installed in both the display unit and the respective sensor.
  • Check if the batteries are fresh. Replace if necessary.
  • Ensure the sensors are within the wireless range of the display unit (typically up to 100 ft / 30 m, but walls and appliances can reduce range).
  • Try re-syncing the units by removing batteries from both, waiting 1 minute, then reinserting batteries into the display unit first, followed by the sensors.

Inaccurate Temperature Readings

  • Ensure sensors are not placed in direct contact with food items or against the walls of the appliance, which can affect readings.
  • Verify that the appliance door is properly sealed and not frequently opened.
  • Compare readings with a known accurate thermometer if possible.

Alarm Not Sounding

  • Check that the alarm thresholds are correctly set and activated for the desired sensor.
  • Ensure the display unit has sufficient battery power.
