Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your Nikon COOLPIX S6100 digital camera. Setup

Charging the Battery

The camera uses an EN-EL12 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery. Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use.

  1. Insert the EN-EL12 battery into the EH-69P AC Adapter/Charger.
  2. Plug the AC Adapter/Charger into a power outlet.
  3. The charging indicator light will illuminate. Charging is complete when the light turns off.
  4. Alternatively, the camera can be charged via the UC-E6 USB Cable connected to a computer or the EH-69P AC Adapter.

Inserting a Memory Card

The camera requires an SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory card (sold separately) to store photos and videos.

  1. Open the battery/card compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the memory card into the slot with the label facing the correct direction until it clicks into place.
  3. Close the compartment cover securely.

Attaching the Strap

Attach the AN-CP19 strap to the camera to prevent accidental drops.

  1. Thread the strap through the strap eyelet on the camera body.
  2. Secure the strap as shown in the strap instructions.

Operating the Camera

Powering On/Off

Press the power button located on the top of the camera to turn it on or off.

Using the Touch Screen

The COOLPIX S6100 features a 3-inch high-resolution touch monitor. You can use your finger or the provided TP-1 stylus to navigate menus, adjust settings, focus, and shoot. Simply touch the desired area on the screen to interact.

Taking Photos

The camera offers various modes to capture still images:

To take a photo, frame your subject on the LCD, then press the shutter button located on the top of the camera. For touch shutter, simply tap the screen where you want to focus and the camera will take the picture.

Recording HD Movies

The COOLPIX S6100 can record HD 720p movies with stereo sound.

  1. Press the dedicated movie recording button (red circle icon) on the back of the camera to start recording.
  2. Press the button again to stop recording.
  3. You can use the optical zoom during video recording.

Playback and Editing

To view your photos and videos, press the playback button (triangle icon) on the back of the camera.

Vibration Reduction (VR) Image Stabilization

The camera features a 4-way VR Image Stabilization System to reduce blur caused by camera shake, especially in low light or when using the zoom. This system operates automatically.

When not using the camera for an extended period, remove the battery and memory card. Store the camera in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

ProblemSolution
Camera does not power on.Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly inserted. Check if the battery contacts are clean.
Images are blurry.Check lighting conditions. Ensure the lens is clean. Hold the camera steady or use the VR Image Stabilization. For moving subjects, ensure sufficient shutter speed.
Red-eye in portraits.Use the in-camera Red-Eye Correction feature during playback or select a flash mode with red-eye reduction.
Touch screen is unresponsive.Ensure the screen is clean and dry. Try using the provided stylus for more precise input. Power cycle the camera.
Cannot record video.Check if the memory card has sufficient free space. Ensure the card is compatible and properly inserted.
