AcuRite 01015 Wireless Weather Station User Manual

Model: 01015M

Introduction

The AcuRite 01015 Wireless Weather Station provides comprehensive weather and weather prediction information directly from your backyard. Utilizing patented Self-Calibrating Technology, it delivers a personalized forecast of 12 to 24 hour weather conditions, ensuring accuracy for your specific location.

The system features a bold, easy-to-read LCD screen displaying indoor/outdoor temperature and humidity, wind speed, direction, and chill, barometric pressure history, moon phase, clock, and calendar. Its customizable Weather Ticker streams real-time information and alerts, while programmable alarms notify you of changing weather conditions.

The outdoor sensor is a single, easy-to-mount unit integrating five technologies: thermometer, hygrometer, wind speed anemometer, wind direction vane, and a self-emptying rainfall collector cup.

Included Components

Your AcuRite 01015 Wireless Weather Station package includes the following:

  • Wireless Outdoor Sensor (5-in-1 unit)
  • Digital Display Unit
  • Mounting Hardware
  • Display Stand
  • Instruction Manual (this document)

Setup

1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage. Ensure all listed components are present.

2. Powering the Display Unit

  • Insert 3 AA alkaline or lithium batteries (not included) into the battery compartment on the back of the display unit. Observe polarity (+/-) markings.
  • The display will power on and begin searching for the outdoor sensor.

3. Powering the Outdoor Sensor

  • Insert 4 AA alkaline or lithium batteries (not included) into the battery compartment on the outdoor sensor.
  • Ensure the rain gauge locking pin is removed. This pin is typically secured with tape and must be pulled out for the rain gauge to function correctly.

4. Sensor Placement

For optimal performance and accurate readings, the outdoor sensor should be mounted in an open area, away from obstructions that could block wind or rain. Ideal placement is at least 5 feet off the ground, ensuring the solar panel faces south for maximum sunlight exposure.

  • Mount the sensor securely using the provided mounting hardware. A sturdy pole or post is recommended to prevent swaying, which can affect rain readings.
  • Ensure the sensor is level for accurate rain collection.

5. Synchronization

Once both units are powered, they should automatically synchronize. This may take a few minutes. A strong signal penetration (enhanced 433 MHz) ensures reliable communication between the sensor and display.

Display Overview

The large LCD display provides a wealth of information at a glance:

  • Indoor/Outdoor Temperature & Humidity: Current readings for both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Wind Speed & Direction: Current wind speed, peak wind speed, average wind speed, and wind direction.
  • Rainfall: Daily, monthly, and total rainfall amounts.
  • Barometric Pressure: Current pressure and historical trend.
  • Weather Forecast: 12 to 24-hour forecast based on self-calibrating technology.
  • Time & Date: Current time and calendar.
  • Moon Phase: Current moon phase display.

Weather Ticker™

The Weather Ticker at the bottom of the display streams real-time information and alerts. You can customize the information displayed through the unit's settings. While comprehensive, the ticker can be challenging to read from a distance, especially if wall-mounted above eye level.

Programmable Alarms

Set custom alarms for various weather conditions, including temperature, humidity, wind, rain, dew point, heat index, and storm alerts. These alarms will notify you when specific thresholds are met, allowing you to stay informed about changing conditions.

Backlight Feature

The display features a blue backlight for improved visibility in low-light conditions. This can be turned on and off easily.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Outdoor Sensor

Periodically inspect and clean the outdoor sensor to ensure accurate readings. Dust, debris, or insects can accumulate on the wind cups, wind vane, and rain collector. Use a soft, damp cloth to gently wipe surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

Battery Replacement

Replace batteries in both the display unit and the outdoor sensor when the low battery indicator appears on the display. It is recommended to replace all batteries at the same time to ensure consistent performance. Use high-quality alkaline or lithium batteries.

Winterization (for cold climates)

In extremely cold climates, lithium batteries are recommended for the outdoor sensor as they perform better in lower temperatures than alkaline batteries.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible Cause / Solution
No outdoor sensor data on display
  • Ensure batteries are correctly installed in both units and are not depleted.
  • Check that the outdoor sensor is within range (up to 330 feet / 100 meters) and free from major obstructions.
  • Perform a reset: Remove batteries from both units, wait 1 minute, then reinsert batteries into the outdoor sensor first, followed by the display unit.
Inaccurate temperature/humidity readings
  • Ensure the outdoor sensor is not in direct sunlight or near heat sources (e.g., walls, vents).
  • Clean the sensor housing to remove any debris that might affect readings.
  • Allow the unit to self-calibrate for 14 days after initial setup or reset for the most accurate forecast.
Rain gauge not working or inaccurate
  • Verify that the rain gauge locking pin has been completely removed from the sensor unit. This is a common issue.
  • Ensure the sensor is mounted level.
  • Check for debris in the rain collector funnel or tipping bucket mechanism.
Inaccurate wind readings
  • Ensure the wind cups and wind vane are spinning freely and are not obstructed.
  • Verify the sensor is mounted in an open area, away from buildings, trees, or other structures that could block wind.
  • Confirm the sensor is securely mounted and not swaying, which can cause false readings.
Barometric pressure reading is off
  • The unit self-calibrates over 14 days. Ensure this period has passed.
  • Manual adjustment for barometric pressure is generally not available on this model.
