1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and correct installation, operation, and maintenance of the ABB F204A-25/0,03 Residual Current Device (RCD). Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and keep it for future reference. This device is designed to protect against electric shock by detecting leakage currents to earth.
Safety Warnings
- Installation and maintenance must only be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national wiring regulations and safety standards.
- Always disconnect the main power supply before working on the electrical system.
- Do not operate the device if it appears damaged.
- The RCD does not protect against overcurrents (overload or short-circuit). Appropriate overcurrent protective devices must be installed upstream.
2. Setup and Installation
The ABB F204A-25/0,03 RCD is designed for DIN rail mounting within an electrical distribution board.
2.1 Pre-installation Checks
- Verify that the RCD's specifications (current rating, sensitivity, number of poles) match the requirements of your electrical installation.
- Ensure the installation environment is dry and free from excessive dust or corrosive substances.
2.2 Mounting
- Ensure the main power supply is disconnected.
- Attach the RCD to a standard 35mm DIN rail by hooking the top edge onto the rail and pressing down until the bottom clip engages.

2.3 Wiring Connections
Connect the incoming and outgoing conductors to the RCD terminals as per the wiring diagram. The F204A-25/0,03 is a 4-pole device, suitable for three-phase systems with a neutral conductor.
- Incoming Power: Connect the phase conductors (L1, L2, L3) and the neutral conductor (N) to the upper terminals (1, 3, 5, 7).
- Outgoing Load: Connect the phase conductors (L1', L2', L3') and the neutral conductor (N') to the lower terminals (2, 4, 6, 8).
- Ensure all connections are tight to prevent loose contacts and overheating.

3. Operating Instructions
Once installed and wired correctly, the RCD is ready for operation.
3.1 Switching On/Off
- To switch the RCD ON, push the blue operating lever upwards.
- To switch the RCD OFF, pull the blue operating lever downwards.
- If the RCD trips due to a fault, the lever will move to the 'OFF' position.

3.2 Test Button
The RCD is equipped with a 'TEST' button to verify its functionality. Pressing this button simulates a leakage current, causing the RCD to trip.
- With the RCD in the 'ON' position, press the 'TEST' button.
- The RCD should immediately trip to the 'OFF' position.
- If the RCD does not trip, it may be faulty and requires immediate inspection by a qualified electrician.
- After testing, reset the RCD by pushing the lever back to the 'ON' position.
4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the continued safe and reliable operation of your RCD.
4.1 Regular Testing
It is recommended to test the RCD using the 'TEST' button at least once every six months to ensure it is functioning correctly. Follow the steps outlined in Section 3.2.
4.2 Cleaning and Inspection
- Ensure power is disconnected before cleaning.
- Clean the exterior of the RCD with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Periodically inspect the RCD for any signs of physical damage, discoloration, or loose connections. Any damage should be addressed by a qualified electrician.
5. Troubleshooting
If the RCD trips unexpectedly or fails to operate, consider the following:
- RCD Trips Frequently: This indicates a persistent earth leakage fault in the connected circuit. Disconnect appliances one by one to identify the faulty device or circuit.
- RCD Does Not Trip with Test Button: The RCD may be faulty. Immediately contact a qualified electrician for inspection and replacement.
- RCD Does Not Reset: Ensure the fault causing the trip has been cleared. If the fault persists, the RCD will not reset. If no fault is present and it still won't reset, the RCD may be damaged.
For any persistent issues or if you are unsure about the cause of a fault, always consult a qualified electrician.
