The alarm can be free-standing on a flat surface or wall-mounted using the provided fixings. When wall-mounting, ensure it is at least 150mm (6 inches) from the ceiling and at least 1 meter (3 feet) from any fuel-burning appliance to avoid false alarms from normal appliance operation.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Normal Operation

During normal operation, the green Power LED will flash once every 45 seconds. This indicates the alarm is functioning correctly and monitoring for carbon monoxide.

5.2. Testing the Alarm

Press and hold the large Test/Reset button for approximately 3 seconds. The alarm will emit a loud, pulsating sound, and the red CO Alarm LED will flash. Release the button to stop the test. Test the alarm monthly to ensure proper function.

5.3. Carbon Monoxide Alarm Condition

If carbon monoxide is detected, the alarm will sound a loud, pulsating signal (4 beeps, pause, 4 beeps) and the red CO Alarm LED will flash rapidly. If this occurs:

  1. Immediately move to fresh air outdoors or open all doors and windows.
  2. Do a head count to check that all persons are accounted for.
  3. Do not re-enter the premises until the alarm has stopped and the area has been ventilated.
  4. Call the emergency services or a qualified technician to investigate the source of the CO.

5.4. Fault/Low Battery Indication

If the amber Fault LED illuminates or the alarm chirps intermittently (e.g., once every 45 seconds) without the red CO Alarm LED flashing, it indicates a fault or a low battery. In this case, the unit needs to be replaced as the battery is sealed and not user-replaceable.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning

Clean the alarm regularly to prevent dust buildup from affecting its performance. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use cleaning agents, solvents, or polishes, as these can damage the sensor or casing. Do not spray air fresheners, hairspray, or other aerosols near the alarm.

6.2. Battery

The Fireangel CO-9X features a sealed-for-life battery with a 7-year lifespan. The battery is not user-replaceable. When the battery reaches the end of its life, the amber Fault LED will indicate a low battery, and the unit will need to be replaced.
