1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your Fireangel CO-9X Carbon Monoxide Alarm. Please read these instructions carefully before use and retain them for future reference. This device is designed to detect carbon monoxide gas and alert occupants to its presence, helping to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

2. Important Safety Information
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that can be fatal. This alarm is designed to detect CO gas from any source of combustion. It is not a smoke alarm and does not detect fire. This device is not a substitute for proper maintenance of fuel-burning appliances, including ventilation and exhaust systems.
- Do not ignore the alarm. An alarm indicates the presence of carbon monoxide, which can be fatal.
- Never paint the alarm. Paint can block the sensor and prevent proper operation.
- Do not obstruct the alarm's vents. Ensure air can freely circulate around the device.
- Test the alarm regularly. Perform a test at least once a month.
3. Product Overview
The Fireangel CO-9X is a portable carbon monoxide alarm featuring a sealed-for-life battery designed to last 7 years. It includes visual indicators for power, fault, and CO detection, along with an audible alarm.

Image 3.1: Close-up view of the Fireangel CO-9X alarm's indicator lights and test button. The green LED indicates power, the amber LED indicates a fault, and the red LED indicates a CO alarm.
Components:
- Test/Reset Button: Used to test the alarm's functionality and silence false alarms.
- Power Indicator (Green LED): Flashes every 45 seconds to indicate normal operation.
- Fault Indicator (Amber LED): Illuminates to indicate a fault or low battery.
- CO Alarm Indicator (Red LED): Flashes rapidly during a CO alarm.
- Audible Alarm: Emits a loud sound during a CO alarm.
4. Setup & Installation
4.1. Activation
The Fireangel CO-9X alarm is activated by removing a small lanyard or activation tab from the battery compartment. Once activated, the green LED will flash, indicating the unit is operational. The sealed battery is designed to last for 7 years from activation.
4.2. Placement Guidelines
For optimal protection, install carbon monoxide alarms in:
- Every room containing a fuel-burning appliance.
- Rooms where occupants spend considerable time, such as living rooms and bedrooms.
- Areas where the alarm can be heard by all occupants.
The alarm can be free-standing on a flat surface or wall-mounted using the provided fixings. When wall-mounting, ensure it is at least 150mm (6 inches) from the ceiling and at least 1 meter (3 feet) from any fuel-burning appliance to avoid false alarms from normal appliance operation.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Normal Operation
During normal operation, the green Power LED will flash once every 45 seconds. This indicates the alarm is functioning correctly and monitoring for carbon monoxide.
5.2. Testing the Alarm
Press and hold the large Test/Reset button for approximately 3 seconds. The alarm will emit a loud, pulsating sound, and the red CO Alarm LED will flash. Release the button to stop the test. Test the alarm monthly to ensure proper function.
5.3. Carbon Monoxide Alarm Condition
If carbon monoxide is detected, the alarm will sound a loud, pulsating signal (4 beeps, pause, 4 beeps) and the red CO Alarm LED will flash rapidly. If this occurs:
- Immediately move to fresh air outdoors or open all doors and windows.
- Do a head count to check that all persons are accounted for.
- Do not re-enter the premises until the alarm has stopped and the area has been ventilated.
- Call the emergency services or a qualified technician to investigate the source of the CO.
5.4. Fault/Low Battery Indication
If the amber Fault LED illuminates or the alarm chirps intermittently (e.g., once every 45 seconds) without the red CO Alarm LED flashing, it indicates a fault or a low battery. In this case, the unit needs to be replaced as the battery is sealed and not user-replaceable.
6. Maintenance
6.1. Cleaning
Clean the alarm regularly to prevent dust buildup from affecting its performance. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use cleaning agents, solvents, or polishes, as these can damage the sensor or casing. Do not spray air fresheners, hairspray, or other aerosols near the alarm.
6.2. Battery
The Fireangel CO-9X features a sealed-for-life battery with a 7-year lifespan. The battery is not user-replaceable. When the battery reaches the end of its life, the amber Fault LED will indicate a low battery, and the unit will need to be replaced.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Indication | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Alarm sounds continuously (4 beeps, pause) | Red CO Alarm LED flashing rapidly. | Carbon Monoxide detected. Follow emergency procedures outlined in Section 5.3. Evacuate and ventilate the area. Contact emergency services. |
| Alarm chirps intermittently (e.g., every 45 seconds) | Amber Fault LED illuminates. | Low battery or fault. The unit has reached the end of its operational life or has a fault. Replace the alarm immediately. |
| Alarm does not respond to test button | No sound or light during test. | Ensure the unit is activated (lanyard removed). If activated and still unresponsive, the unit is faulty. Replace the alarm. |
| Green Power LED not flashing | No indication of power. | Ensure the unit is activated. If activated, the unit may be faulty or at the end of its life. Replace the alarm. |
