Operating Instructions

1. Calibration (Zero-Setting)

Calibration should be performed daily or when moving to an environment with a significant temperature change.

  1. Ensure the sample well is clean and dry.
  2. Place 0.3 mL of distilled water onto the prism in the sample well. Ensure the water covers the entire prism surface without air bubbles.
  3. Close the daylight plate gently over the water.
  4. Press the ZERO button. The display will show "0.0%" and "END" briefly, indicating successful calibration.
  5. Wipe the distilled water from the prism and sample well using a soft, lint-free cloth.

2. Taking a Measurement

  1. Ensure the refractometer is calibrated and the sample well is clean and dry.
  2. Place 0.3 mL of your sample liquid onto the prism in the sample well. Ensure the sample covers the entire prism surface without air bubbles.
  3. Close the daylight plate gently over the sample.
  4. Press the START button. The measurement will be displayed on the LCD in approximately 3 seconds.
  5. Read the Brix value and temperature from the display.
  6. After measurement, clean the sample well and prism thoroughly with water and a soft cloth.

3. Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC)

The PAL-3 features ATC, which automatically adjusts Brix readings for sample temperatures between 10°C and 100°C. This ensures accurate results regardless of the sample's temperature within this range.

4. External Light Interference (ELI) Warning

If direct light interferes with the measurement, the device will display a warning message. Move to a shaded area or block direct light from the sample well to ensure accurate readings.
