Setup

Subwoofer Placement

The DSWPRO 550WI offers flexible placement options. It can be configured in either a downward-firing or front-firing mode.

  • Downward-Firing Mode: The subwoofer is positioned with its feet down, directing sound towards the floor. This is the standard configuration.
  • Front-Firing Mode: To switch to front-firing mode, reposition the subwoofer onto its back. A woofer grille (sold separately) can be snapped on, and the included rubber foot inserts should be added for stability. This mode can be beneficial for specific room acoustics or aesthetic preferences.

Experiment with different locations in your room to find the best bass response. The exclusive PRO Room Optimizer technology allows for optimal blending regardless of placement, even inside a cabinet.

Connecting Your Subwoofer

The DSWPRO 550WI offers multiple connection options for seamless integration with various audio systems.

  • LFE Input: For receivers with a dedicated Subwoofer/LFE output, connect a single RCA cable from your receiver's LFE output to the subwoofer's LFE input.
  • Line Level Inputs: If your receiver does not have an LFE output, use the stereo RCA line level inputs. Connect RCA cables from your receiver's pre-out or subwoofer output to the subwoofer's left and right line level inputs.
  • Speaker Level Inputs: For receivers without line level outputs, connect speaker wires from your receiver's main speaker outputs to the subwoofer's 5-way binding post speaker level inputs. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).

Room Optimizer Technology (PRO)

The DSWPRO 550WI features four preset "Room Optimizers" accessible via the remote control. These presets allow you to specify the subwoofer's location and automatically adjust the bass and blending settings for optimal performance in your listening environment.

  1. Select the preset that best matches your subwoofer's placement (e.g., corner, wall, in-cabinet).
  2. The system will automatically adjust parameters to provide balanced and accurate bass.

Operating Your Subwoofer

Power On/Off

Connect the power cord to the subwoofer and a wall outlet. The subwoofer features an intelligent RMS amplifier that efficiently manages power. It can enter a standby mode at low volumes or when no audio signal is detected.

Using the Remote Control

The included remote control allows you to adjust various settings from your listening position. This includes volume, crossover frequency, phase, and selecting the Room Optimizer presets. The remote uses infrared (IR) technology.

Night Mode

The DSWPRO 550WI includes a Night Mode feature. This mode reduces the dynamic range of the subwoofer's output, providing a less impactful bass response suitable for late-night listening without disturbing others. Refer to your remote control's instructions for activating and deactivating Night Mode.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Polk Audio DSWPRO 550WI Subwoofer, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Dust the subwoofer cabinet regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or strong detergents, as these can damage the finish.
  • Placement: Ensure the subwoofer is placed on a stable, level surface to prevent vibrations and potential damage. Keep it away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture.
  • Ventilation: Do not block the ventilation openings. Adequate airflow is crucial to prevent overheating of the internal amplifier.
  • Power Cord: Periodically check the power cord for any signs of damage. If damaged, replace it immediately with an approved cord.
