5. Operating Instructions

The Tatung TAC-11KN(UL) uses an indirect heating system, where water in the outer pot generates steam to cook the food in the inner pot. This method ensures even cooking and prevents burning.

5.1. General Cooking Steps

  1. Add Water to Outer Pot: Pour the recommended amount of water into the main unit's outer pot. The amount of water depends on the cooking mode and duration.
  2. Prepare Inner Pot: Place your ingredients (e.g., rice and water, vegetables, stew ingredients) into the stainless steel inner pot.
  3. Insert Inner Pot: Carefully place the inner pot into the main unit's outer pot.
  4. Cover: Place the lid securely on the inner pot.
  5. Power On: Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.
  6. Start Cooking: Press the power switch to the "ON" position. The cooker will begin heating.
  7. Automatic Shut-off & Keep Warm: Once the water in the outer pot has evaporated, the cooker will automatically switch off the heating element. If the "Keep Warm" switch is engaged, the unit will automatically enter the keep warm mode.
  8. Serve: Unplug the cooker and carefully remove the lid. Use the rice spatula to serve.

5.2. Cooking Modes

The TAC-11KN(UL) supports four distinct cooking modes:

  • Rice Mode: Ideal for cooking various types of rice. Follow the water ratios specified for your rice type. Typically, for every cup of rice in the inner pot, add a corresponding amount of water to the inner pot, and then add 1-2 cups of water to the outer pot for cooking.
  • Steam Mode: Use the included steam plate. Place water in the outer pot, then place the steam plate inside the inner pot, and arrange food on the steam plate. This is suitable for vegetables, seafood, and dumplings.
  • Braise Mode: Suitable for lightly frying or sautéing ingredients before stewing. This mode uses the direct heat from the bottom of the outer pot.
  • Stew Mode: Perfect for preparing soups and stews. Place ingredients and liquid in the inner pot, add water to the outer pot, and allow the indirect heating to gently cook the dish.

5.3. Keep Warm Function

The cooker features a "Keep Warm On/Off" switch. When this switch is set to "ON", the appliance will automatically transition to a warming cycle after the cooking process is complete, keeping your food at an optimal serving temperature.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your Tatung rice cooker.

  1. Always Unplug: Before cleaning, ensure the cooker is unplugged from the power outlet and has cooled down completely.
  2. Inner Pot and Accessories: The stainless steel inner pot, lid, steam plate, measuring cup, and rice spatula are dishwasher safe or can be washed by hand with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately to prevent water spots.
  3. Outer Pot (Main Unit): Wipe the exterior and interior of the outer pot with a damp cloth. For stubborn stains inside the outer pot, a mild abrasive cleaner designed for stainless steel can be used, followed by wiping with a clean damp cloth and drying. Never immerse the main unit in water or any other liquid.
  4. Storage: Store the cleaned and dried cooker in a cool, dry place.
