Setup

1. Power Source

The S450DLX radio can be powered by either batteries or the included AC adapter.

  • Battery Power: Requires 6 x D batteries (not included). Open the battery compartment on the back of the radio and insert the batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  • AC Power: Connect the included AC adapter to the DC IN (9V, 500 mA, negative polarity) socket on the radio and plug it into a standard electrical outlet.

2. Antenna Connection

For optimal reception, especially for Shortwave (SW) and AM (MW) bands, consider using external antennas.

  • Built-in Telescopic Antenna: Extend the telescopic antenna for FM and Shortwave reception.
  • External Antenna: Connect an external AM/FM/SW antenna to the designated input socket. For improved MW sensitivity, use the individual MW 500 Ext./GND socket.

Operation

1. Power On/Off

Press the POWER/SLEEP button located on the top right of the radio to turn it on or off.

2. Band Selection

Use the BAND switch to select between AM (MW), FM, or Shortwave (SW) bands.

3. Tuning

The S450DLX offers multiple tuning methods:

  • Manual Tuning: Rotate the large TUNING knob to manually scan frequencies.
  • Up/Down Buttons: Use the UP and DOWN buttons for incremental tuning.
  • Fast/Slow/Stop Tuning Steps: Adjust the tuning speed using the FAST, SLOW, and STOP buttons under "TUNING STEP".
  • Direct Frequency Entry: Refer to the full owner's manual for direct frequency input instructions.

4. Memory Presets

The radio can store up to 50 stations (10 for each band).

  • Storing a Station: Tune to the desired station, then press and hold the PRESET button until the memory location flashes. Use the UP/DOWN buttons to select a memory number, then press PRESET again to confirm.
  • Recalling a Station: Press the PRESET button briefly, then use the UP/DOWN buttons to navigate through stored stations.

5. Alarm, Snooze, and Sleep Functions

The S450DLX includes dual alarms and sleep timer functionality.

  • Setting Alarm: Refer to the full owner's manual for detailed alarm setting instructions.
  • Snooze: When an alarm sounds, press the SNOOZE button to temporarily silence it.
  • Sleep Timer: Press the POWER/SLEEP button repeatedly while the radio is on to cycle through sleep timer durations (e.g., 90, 60, 30 minutes) or select "ON" for continuous play.
  • Deactivating the Sleep Timer: After turning the radio on, press the POWER/SLEEP button repeatedly until the word "ON" appears in the display.

6. Audio Controls

  • Volume: Adjust the VOLUME knob to control the audio output level.
  • Bass/Treble: Use the independent BASS and TREBLE knobs to fine-tune the audio tone to your preference.
  • Bandwidth Selection: The MW/SW IF wide/narrow bandwidth selection improves audio fidelity and minimizes noise.

7. External Audio Input/Output

  • Line In: Connect external audio devices (e.g., MP3 player) to the LINE IN jack to play audio through the radio's speaker.
  • Line Out: Connect the LINE OUT jack to an external amplifier or recording device.
  • Earphone: Plug headphones into the EARPHONE jack for private listening.
  • Stereo/Mono Selection: Use the STEREO/MONO switch for desired audio output.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the radio with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the battery level indicator on the LCD display shows low power. Remove batteries if the radio will not be used for an extended period.
  • Storage: Store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
