4. Setup

Before using your coffeemaker for the first time, please follow these steps:

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all packaging materials from the coffeemaker.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Wash the carafe and brew basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  3. Clean Cycle: Fill the water reservoir to the 4-cup mark with clean water. Place the empty brew basket (without coffee grounds) into its position and close the lid. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate. Plug the coffeemaker into an electrical outlet and press the power button to run a full brewing cycle. Discard the water from the carafe. 5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to brew coffee with your Mr. Coffee Tf5-099 Coffeemaker:

  1. Add Water: Open the top lid of the coffeemaker. Fill the carafe with the desired amount of fresh, cold water (up to 4 cups). Pour the water into the water reservoir at the back of the coffeemaker. The water level indicator on the side will help you measure.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the reusable brew basket into its holder. Add your preferred amount of ground coffee into the brew basket. For optimal flavor, use approximately 1 tablespoon of coffee grounds per cup.
  3. Close Lid: Close the top lid securely.
  4. Position Carafe: Place the empty carafe onto the warming plate.
  5. Brew Coffee: Plug the coffeemaker into a standard electrical outlet. Press the power button located on the front of the unit. The indicator light will illuminate, and brewing will begin.
  6. Pause 'n Serve: If you wish to pour a cup before brewing is complete, carefully remove the carafe. The flow of coffee will temporarily stop. Return the carafe to the warming plate within 20 seconds to prevent overflow.
  7. Enjoy: Once the brewing cycle is complete, the coffeemaker will automatically keep the coffee warm for 1 hour before shutting off.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your coffeemaker.

  • Daily Cleaning: After each use, unplug the coffeemaker and allow it to cool. Remove the brew basket and discard used coffee grounds. Wash the carafe and brew basket in warm, soapy water or place them in the dishwasher (top rack recommended for the brew basket). Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  • Descaling (Monthly or as needed): Mineral deposits from water can build up over time and affect coffeemaker performance. To descale, fill the water reservoir with a mixture of 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts water. Run a full brewing cycle. After the cycle, let the coffeemaker sit for 15 minutes, then run another cycle with clean water to rinse. Repeat with clean water until the vinegar smell is gone.
  • Flavor Seal Lid: Ensure the Flavor Seal Lid is clean and free of coffee residue to maintain its effectiveness.
