2. Setup

2.1 Unpacking the Console

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all items listed below are present:

2.2 Connecting to a Television

Connect the AV Cable (Integrated Video/Audio) from the console's AV Multi Out port to the corresponding video and audio input jacks on your television. Ensure your television supports NTSC format and has video input labeled "2" or "3" for proper display.

2.3 Power Connection

Insert the power cord into the AC IN connector on the back of the PlayStation 2 console, then plug the other end into a standard electrical outlet.

2.4 Connecting Peripherals

Connect the DUALSHOCK 2 analog controller to one of the controller ports on the front of the console. Insert the PlayStation 2 Dedicated Memory Card (8MB) into one of the memory card slots. Note that the PlayStation 2 memory card is not compatible with external peripherals designed for the original PlayStation.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Powering On/Off

Press the POWER button on the front of the console to turn it on. Press it again to turn it off.

3.2 Inserting Discs

Open the disc tray by pressing the EJECT button. Place a PlayStation 2 format software disc, PlayStation format software disc, DVD-ROM, CD-ROM, or Music CD onto the disc tray with the label side facing up. Close the disc tray by pressing the EJECT button again.

3.3 Starting Games and Media

After inserting a disc and powering on the console, the system will typically start the game or media automatically. If not, navigate through the system menu to select the appropriate option.

3.4 Compatibility Notes

  • Some original PlayStation software may behave differently on the PlayStation 2 console compared to the original PlayStation. Refer to the instruction manual for each specific game title for details.
  • The PlayStation 2 Dedicated Memory Card (8MB) is not compatible with external peripherals designed for the original PlayStation.
  • The PlayStation 2 Analog Controller (DUALSHOCK 2) is compatible with the original PlayStation Analog Controller (DUALSHOCK).

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Console

Wipe the console's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials. Ensure the console is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.

4.2 Disc Handling

Always hold discs by their edges. Avoid touching the data side. Store discs in their cases when not in use to prevent scratches and dust accumulation. Clean dirty discs with a soft, lint-free cloth, wiping from the center outwards.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 No Power

  • Ensure the power cord is securely connected to both the console and the electrical outlet.
  • Verify that the electrical outlet is functioning correctly.

5.2 No Video or Audio Output

  • Check that the AV Cable is securely connected to both the console and the television.
  • Ensure your television is set to the correct video input channel (e.g., Video 2, Video 3).
  • Confirm your television supports NTSC format.

5.3 Disc Read Errors

  • Ensure the disc is clean and free of scratches.
  • Verify the disc is inserted correctly with the label side facing up.
  • Try a different disc to determine if the issue is with the console or the disc.
