Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the safe and effective use of your Superfish Anti-Ice Device and Aeration Set. This device is designed to prevent your pond from freezing completely, ensuring gas exchange and providing essential oxygen for pond inhabitants during winter months. Please read these instructions carefully before installation and operation.
Safety Instructions
- Always disconnect the power supply before handling or performing maintenance on the device.
- Ensure the power outlet is protected by a Residual Current Device (RCD) with a tripping current not exceeding 30mA.
- Do not operate the device if the power cable or any part of the unit is damaged.
- Keep the air pump in a dry, sheltered location, away from direct weather exposure and splashing water.
- This device is for outdoor pond use only. Do not use it for any other purpose.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Setup and Installation
- Position the Air Pump: Place the air pump in a dry, sheltered location near the pond, ensuring it is protected from rain, snow, and direct sunlight. The pump should be placed above the highest water level of the pond to prevent water from siphoning back into the pump.
- Connect the Air Hose: Attach one end of the air hose securely to the outlet nozzle of the air pump.
- Attach the Air Stone: Connect the other end of the air hose to the air stone.
- Assemble the Floating Device: Thread the air hose with the attached air stone through the central opening of the floating anti-ice disc. The air stone should hang freely below the disc when it is placed in the water.
- Place in Pond: Carefully place the floating anti-ice device into the pond. Ensure the air stone is submerged and positioned at a suitable depth, typically not touching the pond bottom, to allow for effective aeration.
- Power Connection: Once all components are correctly assembled and positioned, connect the air pump to a properly grounded and RCD-protected power outlet.
Operating Instructions
The Superfish Anti-Ice Device and Aeration Set operates continuously once connected to power. The air pump will supply air through the air stone, creating bubbles that rise to the surface. This constant movement of water prevents a small area of the pond surface from freezing completely, allowing for essential gas exchange (oxygen in, carbon dioxide out) and preventing harmful gas buildup under the ice. It also provides vital oxygen for fish and other aquatic life during winter.
- Activation: Plug the air pump into a suitable power outlet. The pump will start immediately.
- Deactivation: Unplug the air pump from the power outlet.
- Continuous Operation: For optimal performance during freezing temperatures, the device should operate continuously.
Maintenance
- Regular Inspection: Periodically check the air stone and air hose for blockages or damage. Clean the air stone if it becomes clogged with algae or debris to ensure efficient air flow.
- Pump Cleaning: Ensure the air pump's air intake is clear of dust and debris. Clean the exterior of the pump with a damp cloth if necessary. Do not submerge the pump in water.
- Winter Storage: At the end of the winter season or when freezing temperatures are no longer a concern, disconnect the device from power. Clean all components thoroughly with clean water. Store the air pump in a dry, frost-free location. The floating disc and air stone can also be cleaned and stored.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No air bubbles | Pump not powered; Air hose kinked or blocked; Air stone clogged. | Check power connection; Straighten or clear hose; Clean or replace air stone. |
| Weak air flow | Air stone partially clogged; Pump air intake blocked. | Clean air stone; Clear pump air intake. |
| Pond still freezing over | Extreme cold; Device not running continuously; Insufficient aeration for pond size. | Ensure continuous operation; Consider additional anti-ice measures for very large ponds or extreme conditions. |
