LOWARA BG BGM9/A Self-Priming Centrifugal Pump User Manual

Model: BGM9/A

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of your LOWARA BG BGM9/A self-priming centrifugal pump. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use, and keep it for future reference. This pump is designed for water distribution, pressure boosting, irrigation, washing, rainwater collection, and use in swimming pools and fountains.

2. Safety Information

Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent personal injury and damage to the pump.

  • Electrical Safety: Ensure the power supply matches the pump's specifications (1x220-240V 50Hz). Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance or installation. Use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) for outdoor or wet applications.
  • Installation: Install the pump in a dry, well-ventilated area, protected from frost and direct sunlight. Ensure stable mounting to prevent vibration.
  • Water Temperature: Do not pump liquids outside the specified temperature range (-10°C to +40°C).
  • Pressure: Do not exceed the maximum operating pressure of 8 bar.
  • Qualified Personnel: Installation and electrical connections should only be performed by qualified personnel.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the pump during operation.

3. Product Overview

The LOWARA BG BGM9/A is a close-coupled self-priming centrifugal pump featuring an integrated ejector system. This design allows the pump to remain primed even when gases are dissolved in the water. 4. Setup

4.1. Placement

  • Position the pump as close as possible to the water source to minimize suction lift.
  • Ensure the pump is installed on a firm, level surface to prevent movement and reduce noise.
  • Provide adequate ventilation around the pump to prevent overheating.
  • Protect the pump from direct weather exposure (rain, snow, direct sunlight) and frost.

4.2. Plumbing Connections

  • Use appropriate pipe sizes for suction and discharge lines to ensure optimal performance and prevent cavitation.
  • Install a foot valve with a strainer at the end of the suction line in the water source to prevent debris from entering the pump and to maintain prime.
  • Ensure all connections are airtight, especially on the suction side, to prevent air leaks that can affect priming and pump performance.
  • Install a shut-off valve on both the suction and discharge sides for easier maintenance.

4.3. Electrical Connection

  • Verify that the power supply voltage and frequency match the pump's requirements (220-240V, 50Hz).
  • Connect the pump to a properly grounded electrical outlet.
  • Install a suitable circuit breaker and a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) for protection.
  • All electrical work must comply with local regulations and be performed by a licensed electrician.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Priming the Pump

Although the LOWARA BG BGM9/A is a self-priming pump, initial priming is recommended for faster startup and to protect the pump.

  1. Ensure all valves on the suction and discharge lines are open.
  2. Remove the priming plug located on the top of the pump body.
  3. Fill the pump body completely with clean water until it overflows from the priming hole.
  4. Replace and tighten the priming plug securely.

5.2. Starting the Pump

  1. Ensure the pump is properly primed and all connections are secure.
  2. Switch on the power supply to the pump.
  3. The pump should start and begin to draw water. If it does not prime within a few minutes, switch it off, check for air leaks, and re-prime.

5.3. Stopping the Pump

To stop the pump, simply switch off the power supply.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your pump. Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance.

  • Check for Leaks: Periodically inspect all connections and seals for any signs of water leakage. Tighten connections as needed.
  • Clean Strainer/Foot Valve: If a foot valve with a strainer is installed, regularly check and clean it to prevent blockages and maintain efficient water flow.
  • Winterization: In areas subject to freezing temperatures, drain the pump completely to prevent damage from ice expansion. Remove the drain plug and allow all water to escape. Store the pump in a dry, frost-free location if possible.
  • Motor Inspection: Ensure the motor's ventilation openings are clear of debris.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Pump does not startNo power, tripped circuit breaker, faulty wiring.Check power supply, reset breaker, inspect wiring (by qualified electrician).
Pump runs but does not prime or deliver waterAir leak in suction line, pump not filled with water, clogged foot valve/strainer, suction lift too high.Check all suction connections for leaks, re-prime the pump, clean foot valve, ensure suction lift is within limits (max 8m).
Low water flow or pressurePartially clogged strainer, air in system, worn impeller, discharge valve partially closed.Clean strainer, check for air leaks, inspect impeller (by qualified technician), fully open discharge valve.
Pump is noisy or vibrates excessivelyCavitation (air in water), loose mounting, foreign object in pump, worn bearings.Check for air leaks, secure pump mounting, inspect pump for obstructions, contact service for bearing issues.
