Important Safety Instructions
Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
- Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
- Before any work on the pump, always disconnect it from the mains power supply.
- The pump is designed for pumping clean rain water only. Do not use it for pumping drinking water, corrosive, flammable, or explosive liquids, or water containing abrasive substances (e.g., sand).
- The maximum operating temperature of the pumped liquid must not exceed 35°C (95°F).
- Ensure the electrical connection is protected by a residual current device (RCD) with a tripping current not exceeding 30 mA.
- Do not lift or transport the pump by its power cable.
- Regularly inspect the power cable for damage. If damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid a hazard.
Package Contents
Please check that all items are present and undamaged upon unpacking:
- Gardena Classic 4000/2 Rain Water Tank Pump
- Integrated float switch
- Adjustable telescopic connection pipe with regulating and shut-off valve
- Power cable with plug

Setup
1. Initial Assembly and Placement
- Attach the telescopic connection pipe to the pump outlet. Ensure it is securely fastened.
- Lower the pump into the rain water tank or barrel. The pump must be fully submerged in water.
- Adjust the height of the telescopic pipe so that the regulating and shut-off valve is easily accessible above the water level.

2. Electrical Connection
- Ensure your mains power supply matches the voltage specified on the pump's rating plate (18 Volts).
- Connect the power cable to a suitable, outdoor-rated power outlet that is protected by an RCD.
- Note: Some units may be supplied with a European plug. An appropriate adapter or plug replacement by a qualified electrician may be necessary for your region.

Operating Instructions
1. Starting the Pump
- Ensure the pump is fully submerged and the float switch is free to move.
- Plug the pump into the power outlet. The pump will start automatically once the water level is sufficient to activate the float switch.
- Connect your garden hose or irrigation system to the regulating and shut-off valve on the telescopic pipe.

2. Adjusting Water Flow
The regulating and shut-off valve on the telescopic pipe allows you to control the water flow. Turn the valve to increase or decrease the flow as needed for your irrigation tasks.
3. Automatic Operation (Float Switch)
The integrated float switch automatically turns the pump on when the water level rises and off when it falls below a certain point, preventing dry running. Ensure the float switch can move freely and is not obstructed by the tank walls or other objects.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your pump.
1. Cleaning the Filter
The pump is equipped with an integrated filter to prevent debris from entering. If the pump's performance decreases, the filter may need cleaning.
- Disconnect the pump from the power supply.
- Remove the pump from the water tank.
- Unscrew or detach the filter base at the bottom of the pump.
- Clean the filter thoroughly under running water. Remove any accumulated debris.
- Reattach the filter base securely before placing the pump back into operation.

2. Winter Storage
Before the first frost, or if the pump will not be used for an extended period, prepare it for storage:
- Disconnect the pump from the power supply.
- Remove the pump from the water tank and drain all water completely.
- Clean the pump and filter as described above.
- Store the pump in a dry, frost-free location.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your pump, refer to the table below for common problems and solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not start. | No power supply. | Check power connection, fuse, and RCD. |
| Float switch not activated (water level too low). | Ensure sufficient water level in the tank. Check float switch for obstructions. | |
| Motor protection activated (overheating). | Disconnect from power, allow pump to cool down. Check for blockages. | |
| Low flow rate or no water delivery. | Filter is clogged. | Clean the filter as described in the Maintenance section. |
| Hose or pipe is kinked or blocked. | Check all connections and hoses for obstructions. | |
| Air in the pump. | Ensure pump is fully submerged and allow it to run for a short period to expel air. | |
| Pump runs continuously. | Float switch stuck in 'on' position. | Check float switch for free movement and obstructions. |
| Leak in the discharge line. | Inspect hoses and connections for leaks. |
