SkyTech Mrck (SR-1001) Fireplace Remote Control User Manual

Model: SR-1001 | Brand: SkyTech

Introduction

The SkyTech Mrck (SR-1001) remote control system is designed to provide a safe, reliable, and user-friendly remote control solution for gas heating appliances. This system operates on radio frequencies (RF) within a 20 ft. range using non-directional signals. It utilizes one of 255 security codes, pre-programmed into the transmitter at the factory. The remote receiver must learn the transmitter code prior to initial use to ensure proper functionality.

This system offers convenient control with On/Hi Lo/Off functions for operating servo motor valve systems, allowing for flame adjustment from off to high. The receiver is battery-operated and includes a learn function and an On/Remote/Off slider switch for flexible operation.

Setup and Installation

Before beginning installation, ensure your gas heating appliance is turned off and cooled. It is recommended to consult your fireplace's manual for specific wiring diagrams and safety precautions.

1. Wiring the Receiver to the Fireplace

  1. Locate the millivolt gas valve on your fireplace. This system is designed to connect to the TH/TP terminals on the terminal block of your millivolt gas valve.
  2. Identify the wires currently connected to your fireplace's wall switch (if applicable). These wires typically control the ON/OFF function of the gas valve.
  3. Disconnect the existing wall switch wires from the millivolt gas valve terminals.
  4. Connect the two wires from the SkyTech Mrck receiver to the TH/TP terminals on the millivolt gas valve. Both wires can be connected to either TH or TP terminals, as polarity is not critical for this connection.
  5. Ensure all connections are secure.

2. Powering the Receiver

  • Insert the required AA batteries into the receiver unit.
  • Connect the USB power supply to the receiver and plug it into a standard electrical outlet.
  • Attach the external antenna to the designated port on the receiver unit. This helps optimize signal reception, especially when the receiver is placed within the fireplace enclosure.

3. Initial Pairing and App Setup

  1. Download the "Smart Life" app from your device's app store.
  2. Register for a new account or log in if you already have one.
  3. With the receiver powered on, press and hold the reset button on the receiver for approximately 5 seconds until the indicator light begins to blink rapidly. This puts the device into pairing mode.
  4. In the Smart Life app, tap "Add Device" and select "Wall Switch" (or a similar category if "Wall Switch" is not available).
  5. Confirm that the indicator light on the receiver is blinking rapidly within the app.
  6. Enter your Wi-Fi network password (ensure it's a 2.4GHz network, as 5GHz networks are not supported).
  7. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the pairing process. Once successful, the device will be added to your Smart Life account.

4. Smart Home Assistant Integration (e.g., Amazon Alexa)

  1. Open your Amazon Alexa app.
  2. Navigate to "Skills & Games" and search for "Smart Life".
  3. Enable the Smart Life skill and link it to your Smart Life account using your credentials.
  4. Alexa will then discover new devices. This process may take up to 45 seconds.
  5. Once discovered, you can rename your fireplace device (e.g., "Downstairs Fireplace") for easier voice control.

Operation

The SkyTech Mrck (SR-1001) offers multiple ways to control your gas fireplace:

1. Using the Transmitter Remote

  • ON/HI: Press the ON button to turn on the fireplace at a high flame setting.
  • LO: Press the LO button to adjust the flame to a lower setting.
  • OFF: Press the OFF button to turn off the fireplace.

2. Using the Receiver's Slider Switch

  • The receiver unit has a slider switch with three positions: ON, REMOTE, and OFF.
  • ON: Manually turns the fireplace on.
  • REMOTE: Allows control via the transmitter remote or the Smart Life app/voice assistant.
  • OFF: Manually turns the fireplace off.

3. Using the Smart Life App or Voice Assistant

  • Once integrated with your smart home assistant (e.g., Alexa), you can use voice commands like: "Alexa, turn on [Fireplace Name]" or "Alexa, turn off [Fireplace Name]".
  • The Smart Life app provides ON/OFF control and may offer additional scheduling or automation features depending on the app version.

Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your SkyTech Mrck (SR-1001) system:

  • Battery Replacement: Replace the batteries in the transmitter and receiver as needed. Low battery power can affect signal range and reliability.
  • Cleaning: Keep the receiver and transmitter free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners.
  • Placement: Ensure the receiver's antenna is not obstructed by metal objects, which can interfere with Wi-Fi signals. The metal enclosure of the receiver is designed to protect electronics from heat, but proper antenna placement is still crucial for connectivity.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your SkyTech Mrck (SR-1001) system, try the following:

  • No Fireplace Response:
    • Check if the receiver's slider switch is in the "REMOTE" position.
    • Verify that the batteries in both the transmitter and receiver are fresh and correctly installed.
    • Ensure the receiver is powered via the USB adapter.
    • Confirm that the wiring connections to the millivolt gas valve are secure.
  • No Wi-Fi Connectivity:
    • Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4GHz.
    • Check that the receiver's indicator light is blinking rapidly during pairing. If not, reset the device by holding the reset button for 5 seconds.
    • Move your Wi-Fi router closer to the receiver or ensure there are no major obstructions.
    • Verify your Wi-Fi password in the Smart Life app.
  • Voice Assistant Issues:
    • Confirm that the Smart Life skill is enabled and linked correctly in your Alexa app.
    • Try rediscovering devices in your Alexa app.
    • Ensure the device name used in voice commands matches the name set in the Alexa app.
