Altronix AL1012ULACMCB Power Supply/Charger User Manual

Model: AL1012ULACMCB

1. Introduction

The Altronix AL1012ULACMCB is a robust power supply/charger designed to convert 115VAC 60Hz input into eight (8) independently controlled 12VDC non-power limited, fuse-protected outputs. It provides a total of 10 amp continuous supply current. This unit supports both Fail-Safe and Fail-Secure configurations for its outputs. A key feature is the fire alarm disconnect, which allows for emergency egress by individually selecting this function for any or all of the eight outputs. The AL1012ULACMCB is a PTC protected version, ensuring enhanced safety and reliability.

2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all instructions before installing or operating this unit. Failure to do so may result in injury or damage to the unit.

  • Risk of Electric Shock: Disconnect all power sources before servicing. Only qualified personnel should perform installation and maintenance.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.
  • Battery Safety:
    • Avoid short circuits when handling batteries.
    • Do not charge batteries in a sealed container.
    • Keep sparks and flame away from batteries.
    • Use only recommended battery types (Sealed Lead-Acid, 12V, 12AH).
  • Fuse Replacement: Replace fuses only with the same type and rating as marked on the unit.
  • Indoor Use Only: This unit is designed for indoor use in a controlled environment.

3. Product Overview

The AL1012ULACMCB unit is housed within a durable metal enclosure, designed for secure installation. It comprises a main power supply board and a separate distribution board for the eight independent outputs. A sealed lead-acid battery is typically housed within the enclosure for backup power.

The image displays the main power supply board at the top, the eight-output distribution board below it, and a 12V, 12AH sealed lead-acid battery at the bottom right. Wiring connections, including a green ground wire, are visible. An instruction diagram is affixed to the inside of the enclosure door.

Key Components:

  • Main Power Supply Board: Converts AC input to regulated DC power and manages battery charging.
  • Eight-Output Distribution Board: Provides eight individually fuse-protected 12VDC outputs. Each output can be configured for Fail-Safe or Fail-Secure operation.
  • Fire Alarm Disconnect Terminals: Allows integration with a fire alarm system to disconnect power to specified outputs during an alarm event.
  • Battery Terminals: For connecting a 12V sealed lead-acid backup battery.
  • AC Input Terminals: For connecting 115VAC 60Hz power.

4. Setup and Installation

Installation should be performed by qualified service personnel in accordance with all local and national electrical codes.

4.1 Mounting the Enclosure

  1. Select a suitable, dry, and secure location for mounting the unit. Ensure adequate space for ventilation and access.
  2. Mark the mounting points on the wall using the pre-drilled holes on the back of the enclosure as a template.
  3. Secure the enclosure to the wall using appropriate fasteners (screws, anchors) suitable for the wall material.

4.2 Wiring Connections

Ensure all power is disconnected before making any wiring connections.

  1. AC Input: Connect the 115VAC 60Hz power source to the designated AC input terminals on the main power supply board. Ensure proper grounding.
  2. Battery Connection: Connect a 12V, 12AH sealed lead-acid battery to the battery terminals (Pb+ and Pb-). Observe correct polarity (red to positive, black to negative).
  3. DC Outputs: Connect your access control devices or other equipment requiring 12VDC power to the eight independent output terminals on the distribution board. Each output is fuse-protected.
  4. Fire Alarm Disconnect: If utilizing the fire alarm disconnect feature, connect the fire alarm control panel's normally closed (NC) contacts to the designated fire alarm disconnect terminals. Refer to the internal wiring diagram for specific connections.
  5. Grounding: Ensure the enclosure is properly grounded using the green ground wire provided or a suitable grounding connection.

5. Operating Instructions

Once all connections are securely made and verified:

  1. Apply 115VAC power to the unit.
  2. Observe the status indicator LEDs on the main power supply board and the distribution board. Refer to the internal diagram for LED indications (e.g., AC OK, Battery Charge, Output Status).
  3. Verify that all connected devices are receiving power and functioning correctly.
  4. Test the fire alarm disconnect feature if it has been implemented, ensuring it properly cuts power to the configured outputs.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and reliable operation of your AL1012ULACMCB unit.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the enclosure with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure ventilation openings are free from dust and debris.
  • Battery Check:
    • Inspect battery terminals for corrosion. Clean if necessary.
    • Verify battery voltage periodically. A fully charged 12V sealed lead-acid battery should read approximately 12.6V to 12.8V.
    • Replace the battery every 3-5 years, or sooner if its capacity significantly degrades.
  • Fuse Inspection: Periodically check the fuses on the distribution board. If an output is not functioning, check its corresponding fuse. Replace blown fuses only with the same type and rating.
  • Connection Integrity: Annually check all wiring connections for tightness and signs of wear or damage.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No power to outputs. No AC input; Blown fuse on main board; Faulty power supply board.Check AC power source and connections. Inspect main board fuse. Contact technical support if board is faulty.
