Important Safeguards

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

  • Read all instructions.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • To protect against fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, do not immerse cord, plugs, or coffee maker in water or other liquid.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  • Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair, or adjustment.
  • The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  • Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "off", then remove plug from wall outlet.
  • Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  • The carafe is designed for use with this appliance. It must never be used on a range top.
  • Do not place a hot carafe on a wet or cold surface.
  • Do not use a cracked carafe or a carafe having a loose or weakened handle.
  • Do not clean carafe with cleansers, steel wool pads, or other abrasive material.

Before First Use

Before using your coffee maker for the first time, it is recommended to clean all parts thoroughly.

  1. Wash the glass carafe, lid, and reusable mesh filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  2. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not immerse the coffee maker in water.
  3. To clean the internal components, fill the water reservoir to the "12-cup" mark with clean water.
  4. Place the empty filter basket into its holder and close the lid.
  5. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
  6. Plug the coffee maker into a standard electrical outlet.
  7. Press the power switch to the "ON" (I) position to run a full brewing cycle with only water.
  8. Once the cycle is complete, turn the power switch to "OFF" (0) and unplug the appliance.
  9. Discard the water from the carafe and allow the appliance to cool completely before repeating the rinse cycle if desired.

Setup

Follow these steps to set up your coffee maker for brewing.

  1. Ensure the coffee maker is unplugged and placed on a flat, stable surface.
  2. Open the lid of the water reservoir.
  3. Fill the glass carafe with the desired amount of fresh, cold water. Refer to the cup markings on the carafe.
  4. Pour the water from the carafe into the water reservoir. Do not exceed the "MAX 12" level indicated on the water level window.
  5. Place the reusable mesh filter basket into its holder. If using a paper filter, insert a standard basket-style paper filter into the filter basket.
  6. Add the desired amount of ground coffee into the filter. A general guideline is one scoop (provided) per cup, adjusting to your taste.
  7. Close the lid securely.
  8. Place the empty glass carafe onto the warming plate.

Operating Instructions

Once the coffee maker is set up, follow these steps to brew coffee.

  1. Ensure the coffee maker is properly set up as described in the "Setup" section.
  2. Plug the power cord into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.
  3. Press the power switch to the "ON" (I) position. The indicator light will illuminate, signaling that the brewing process has begun.
  4. Water will heat up and drip through the coffee grounds into the carafe.
  5. Once the brewing cycle is complete, the coffee maker will automatically switch to the "keep warm" function, and the warming plate will keep the coffee hot.
  6. To turn off the coffee maker, press the power switch to the "OFF" (0) position.
  7. Unplug the appliance from the outlet when not in use.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your coffee maker.

Daily Cleaning:

  • Always unplug the coffee maker before cleaning and allow it to cool.
  • Remove the filter basket and discard used coffee grounds. Wash the filter basket and carafe in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Wipe the exterior surfaces of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  • Do not immerse the coffee maker in water or any other liquid.

Decalcification (Monthly or as needed):

Mineral deposits from water can build up in your coffee maker, affecting its performance. Decalcify regularly.

  1. Prepare a decalcifying solution by mixing white vinegar and water in equal parts. For example, use 6 cups of vinegar and 6 cups of water for a full 12-cup cycle.
  2. Pour the solution into the water reservoir.
  3. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
  4. Turn on the coffee maker and allow half of the solution to brew through.
  5. Turn off the coffee maker and let it stand for at least 15 minutes to allow the solution to work.
  6. Turn the coffee maker back on and allow the remaining solution to brew through.
  7. Discard the solution from the carafe.
  8. Run at least two full cycles with clean, fresh water to rinse out any remaining vinegar smell or taste.

Troubleshooting

Review these common issues and solutions before contacting customer support.

  • Coffee maker needs cleaning.
  • Use fresh coffee grounds.
  • Clean the coffee maker thoroughly, including decalcification.
