This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your WMF Perfect Plus Pressure Cooker Set. Please read it thoroughly before first use and retain it for future reference.

2. Important Safety Instructions

WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.

  • Always read all instructions before using the pressure cooker.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • Close supervision is necessary when the pressure cooker is used near children.
  • Do not place the pressure cooker in a heated oven.
  • Exercise extreme caution when moving a pressure cooker containing hot liquids.
  • Do not use the pressure cooker for purposes other than intended.
  • This appliance cooks under pressure. Improper use may result in scalding injury. Make certain unit is properly closed before operating. See "Operating Instructions."
  • Never force the pressure cooker open. Make sure pressure has completely dropped before opening. See "Operating Instructions."
  • Do not fill the unit over 2/3 full. When cooking foods that expand during cooking, such as rice or dried vegetables, do not fill the unit over 1/2 full. Overfilling may cause a risk of clogging the vent pipe and developing excess pressure.
  • Be aware that certain foods, such as applesauce, cranberries, pearl barley, oatmeal or other cereals, split peas, noodles, macaroni, rhubarb, or spaghetti can foam, froth, and sputter, and clog the pressure release device. These foods should not be cooked in a pressure cooker.
  • Always check the pressure release devices for clogging before use.
  • The black, phenolic, ergonomically designed handles are designed to stay cool to the touch during normal operation.
  • In the event of excessive pressure build-up, an alarm will sound to indicate that the heat needs to be lowered.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Place your ingredients and the required amount of liquid into either the 6.5-quart or 3-quart pot. Do not exceed the maximum fill lines (2/3 full for most foods, 1/2 full for expanding foods).
  2. Secure the Lid: Place the pressure cooker lid onto the pot. Ensure the lid is correctly aligned and then slide the handle to the locked position. A click or visual indicator will confirm the lid is securely sealed.
  3. Heat Application: Place the pot on a suitable cooktop (gas, electric, ceramic, or induction). Set the heat to high.
  4. Pressure Buildup: As pressure builds, a mechanical plug on the lid handle will rise, indicating the pressure level with visible rings. Refer to your recipe for the appropriate pressure level (number of rings) for your dish.
  5. Maintain Pressure: Once the desired pressure level is reached, reduce the heat to maintain that level. Avoid excessive heat, which can cause the safety alarm to sound.
  6. Cooking Time: Cook for the time specified in your recipe.
  7. Pressure Release: Once cooking is complete, remove the pot from the heat. Allow the pressure to release naturally, or use the quick-release method if specified by your recipe and the cooker's instructions. Ensure the pressure indicator has fully dropped before attempting to open the lid.
  8. Opening the Lid: Once pressure is fully released, slide the handle to the unlocked position and carefully open the lid away from your face to avoid steam burns.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper cleaning and maintenance ensure the longevity and safe operation of your WMF Perfect Plus Pressure Cooker.

  • Daily Cleaning: After each use, allow the pot and lid to cool. Detach the lid handle for thorough cleaning.
  • Dishwasher Safe: The pots and the lid (with the handle removed) are dishwasher safe. For best results and to prolong the life of the gasket, hand washing is recommended for the lid components.
  • Lid Handle Cleaning: The removable handle can be rinsed under running water. Ensure all internal mechanisms are free from food debris.
  • Sealing Ring and Rim: Regularly inspect and clean the sealing ring and the rim of the pot. Any oil or food residue on these surfaces can prevent a proper seal and lead to pressure leakage.
  • Storage: Store the pressure cooker with the lid inverted or slightly ajar to allow air circulation and prevent odors.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Pressure Not Building / Leaking Steam:
Possible Cause: Lid not properly sealed, sealing ring dirty or damaged, or vent pipe clogged.
Solution: Ensure the lid is correctly locked. Clean the sealing ring and pot rim thoroughly. Inspect the sealing ring for damage and replace if necessary. Check the vent pipe for any obstructions.
  • Loud Noise During Operation:
Possible Cause: Excessive pressure buildup or a faulty valve.
Solution: Immediately reduce heat. If an alarm sounds, it indicates excessive pressure. If the issue persists after checking the lid seal and reducing heat, discontinue use and contact customer support.
  • Lid Cannot Be Opened After Cooking:
Possible Cause: Residual pressure inside the cooker.
Solution: Do not force the lid. Ensure the pressure indicator has fully dropped. If it hasn't, allow more time for natural pressure release or use the quick-release method if safe and applicable.
  • Food Burning at the Bottom:
Possible Cause: Insufficient liquid or heat too high.
Solution: Ensure adequate liquid is added according to the recipe. Reduce heat once pressure is reached to maintain, not increase, pressure.
