3. Initial Setup

3.1. Inserting the Battery

The camera uses an EN-EL12 Li-ion rechargeable battery. Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use.

  1. Open the battery chamber cover located on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the EN-EL12 battery with the correct orientation, matching the polarity indicators.
  3. Close the battery chamber cover securely.

3.2. Inserting a Memory Card

The Nikon Coolpix S8100 supports SD/SDHC memory cards (not included).

  1. Open the memory card slot cover, usually located next to the battery chamber.
  2. Insert the SD/SDHC card into the slot until it clicks into place. Ensure the card is oriented correctly.
  3. Close the memory card slot cover.

3.3. Charging the Battery

Use the supplied EH-68P Charging AC Adapter and UC-E6 USB Cable to charge the battery while it is in the camera.

  1. Connect the UC-E6 USB Cable to the camera's USB port.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the EH-68P Charging AC Adapter.
  3. Plug the AC adapter into a power outlet. The charging indicator will light up.
  4. Charging is complete when the indicator turns off.

4. Basic Operation

4.1. Turning the Camera On/Off

Press the Power button on the top panel to turn the camera on or off.

4.2. Taking Still Images

  1. Turn on the camera.
  2. Frame your shot using the LCD monitor.
  3. Press the Shutter button halfway down to focus. The focus indicator will light up.
  4. Press the Shutter button all the way down to capture the image.

4.3. Recording Full HD Movies

The Coolpix S8100 supports Full HD (1080p) movie recording with stereo sound.

  1. Turn on the camera.
  2. Press the dedicated Movie Record button (usually marked with a red dot) to start recording.
  3. Press the Movie Record button again to stop recording.
  4. During recording, you can use the zoom control to adjust the optical zoom.

4.4. Playback

To view captured images and videos:

  1. Press the Playback button (usually marked with a play icon).
  2. Use the navigation buttons to scroll through your photos and videos.
