Precautions:

First Aid:

3. Preparation

Proper preparation is crucial for a strong, leak-free joint. Follow these steps before applying the primer:

  1. Cut Pipe: Cut the pipe square using a suitable pipe cutter.
  2. Deburr and Chamfer: Remove all burrs from the inside and outside edges of the pipe. Chamfer the end of the pipe to facilitate insertion into the fitting.
  3. Clean Surfaces: Ensure all pipe and fitting surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dirt, grease, oil, and moisture. Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe surfaces.
  4. Dry Fit: Dry fit the pipe and fitting to ensure proper alignment and an interference fit. The pipe should enter the fitting socket easily by 1/3 to 2/3 of the socket depth.

4. Application Instructions

Apply Rectorseal PR-1L primer and solvent cement according to the following procedure:

  1. Apply Primer to Pipe: Using a natural bristle brush or dauber, apply a liberal and uniform coat of PR-1L primer to the pipe surface, covering an area equal to the depth of the fitting socket. Ensure the entire surface is wetted and purple in color.
  2. Apply Primer to Fitting: Immediately apply a liberal and uniform coat of PR-1L primer to the inside of the fitting socket. Ensure complete coverage.
  3. Apply Solvent Cement: While the primer is still wet (do not allow primer to dry), immediately apply the appropriate PVC or CPVC solvent cement to both the primed pipe end and the primed inside of the fitting socket. Follow the solvent cement manufacturer's instructions for application.
  4. Assemble Joint: Quickly insert the pipe into the fitting socket, twisting a quarter turn until the pipe bottoms out. Hold the joint together firmly for at least 30 seconds to ensure initial set and prevent the pipe from backing out.
  5. Remove Excess: Wipe off any excess cement from the joint using a clean cloth.
  6. Cure Time: Allow adequate cure time before handling or pressure testing the joint. Refer to the solvent cement manufacturer's recommendations for specific cure times, which vary based on pipe size, temperature, and humidity.

5. Cleanup and Storage

Cleanup:

Clean tools and spills immediately with an appropriate solvent cleaner. Ensure proper ventilation during cleanup.

Storage:

Store Rectorseal PR-1L primer in its original container, tightly closed, in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Keep away from direct sunlight, heat sources, sparks, and open flames. Do not store above 110°F (43°C). Ensure the container is sealed when not in use to prevent evaporation and maintain product effectiveness.

6. Troubleshooting

Issue Possible Cause Solution
Poor Bond Strength Insufficient primer application or primer/cement applied to dirty/wet surfaces. Ensure complete and uniform coverage of primer. Thoroughly clean and dry surfaces before application.
Poor Bond Strength Insufficient cure time for solvent cement. Allow recommended cure time as specified by the solvent cement manufacturer.
Poor Bond Strength Primer or cement is expired or contaminated. Check product expiration dates. Ensure containers are sealed when not in use.
Primer Dries Too Quickly High ambient temperature or low humidity. Work in a cooler environment if possible. Apply primer and cement quickly.
