1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation of your Samsung ST100 digital camera. The Samsung ST100 is a compact digital camera featuring a 14.2-megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom, and dual LCD screens, including a front 1.8-inch TFT-LCD for self-portraits and a rear 3.5-inch TFT-LCD touchscreen for intuitive control. Please read this manual thoroughly before using your camera.

2. Setup

2.1. Charging the Battery

Before initial use, fully charge the supplied Lithium-Ion battery. Connect the camera to a power source using the provided USB cable and a compatible USB power adapter. The charging indicator light will typically show the charging status.

2.2. Inserting a Memory Card

The Samsung ST100 supports microSD and microSDHC memory cards.

  1. Open the memory card slot cover, usually located on the side or bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the microSD/microSDHC card with the metal contacts facing the correct direction, as indicated by a diagram near the slot.
  3. Gently push the card until it clicks into place.
  4. Close the memory card slot cover securely.
Note: Ensure the memory card is formatted in the camera before first use to prevent data corruption.

2.3. Initial Power On and Basic Settings

Press the power button to turn on the camera. Upon first use, you may be prompted to set the date, time, and language. Follow the on-screen instructions using the rear touchscreen display.

3. Operating the Camera

3.1. Taking Photos

  1. Turn on the camera. The rear 3.5-inch TFT-LCD touchscreen will display the live view.
  2. Frame your shot using the touchscreen.
  3. Gently press the shutter button halfway down to focus. The focus frame will turn green when focus is achieved.
  4. Press the shutter button fully down to capture the image.

3.2. Using the Front LCD for Self-Portraits

The ST100 features a front 1.8-inch TFT-LCD display, ideal for self-portraits and group shots.

  1. With the camera on, tap the front of the camera or activate the front LCD via the menu.
  2. The front screen will activate, showing a live preview.
  3. Frame yourself or your group. The camera may offer features like smile detection or a countdown timer for convenience.
  4. Press the shutter button to take the picture.

3.3. Video Recording

To record video:

  1. Switch the camera to video mode (if applicable, or press the dedicated video record button).
  2. Press the record button to start recording.
  3. Press the record button again to stop recording.
The camera supports video resolutions up to 1280 x 720 at 30 or 15 frames per second.

3.4. Zoom Function

Use the zoom lever, typically located around the shutter button, to adjust the optical zoom (5x) and digital zoom (up to 5x). Move the lever towards 'W' for wide-angle and 'T' for telephoto.

3.5. Reviewing Images and Videos

Press the playback button (often indicated by a play icon) to enter playback mode. Use the touchscreen to navigate through your photos and videos. Tap an image to view it full screen, and swipe to move between files.

4. Maintenance

4.1. Cleaning the Camera

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the camera body.
  • For the lens and LCD screens, use a specialized lens cleaning cloth and solution. Avoid harsh chemicals.
  • Never touch the lens directly with your fingers.

4.2. Battery Care

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently to prolong its lifespan.
  • If storing for extended periods, charge the battery to about 50% capacity.

4.3. Storage

Store the camera in a dry, dust-free environment, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Consider using a camera case for added protection during transport.

5. Troubleshooting
