Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the assembly, operation, and maintenance of your Ferplast Canto Bird Cage. The Canto cage is designed for canaries and exotic birds, featuring a robust varnished metal structure and a sturdy plastic bottom. It includes a removable inner partition, making it suitable for breeding, the weaning phase of young birds, or temporary separation.
Please read these instructions carefully before setting up and using the cage to ensure proper functionality and the well-being of your birds.
Setup and Assembly
The Ferplast Canto cage is designed for straightforward assembly. Ensure all components are present before beginning.
1. Unpacking and Component Check
- Carefully remove all parts from the packaging.
- Verify that all components are included: metal wire structure, plastic bottom, removable trays, central partition, perches, drinking bottles, and Brava 2 swivel feeders.
2. Assembling the Cage Structure
- Place the metal wire structure onto the plastic bottom, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
- Insert the removable trays into the designated slots at the bottom of the cage.
3. Installing the Central Partition (Optional)
The cage includes a central partition to divide the habitat into two separate areas. This is useful for breeding or separating birds.

- Slide the partition into the central grooves within the cage structure until it is firmly seated.

Operating the Cage
The Canto cage is designed for ease of use and bird comfort.
1. Feeding and Watering
- Brava 2 Swivel Feeders: These feeders can be rotated 180 degrees to allow refilling from the outside without opening the cage doors. This minimizes the risk of birds escaping. The transparent plastic allows you to monitor food levels.
- Drinking Bottles: Ensure drinking bottles are filled with fresh water daily. Check that the spout is clear and accessible to your birds.
2. Access Doors
The cage features opening doors on both the front and sides for easy access to your birds or for placing/removing items.
3. Using the Partition
If the central partition is installed, it effectively creates two separate living spaces. This is ideal for:
- Breeding pairs, allowing separation of parents or young.
- Weaning young birds.
- Temporarily separating birds that may be incompatible.

1. Daily Cleaning
- Replace water in drinking bottles.
- Refill feeders as needed, ensuring no spoiled food remains.
2. Weekly Cleaning
The cage features removable trays for easy cleaning.
- Carefully slide out the removable trays from the bottom of the cage.
- Discard soiled bedding or waste.
- Wash the trays with warm, soapy water and a bird-safe disinfectant. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely before returning them to the cage.
- Wipe down the cage bars and plastic bottom with a damp cloth and bird-safe cleaner.
- Clean all perches, feeders, and drinking bottles.

Troubleshooting
This section addresses common concerns you might encounter.
1. Difficulty with Perch Installation
- Ensure the perches are aligned correctly with the cage bars. They are designed to be extendable and should fit snugly.
- Apply gentle pressure to secure them in place.
2. Feeders Not Rotating Smoothly
- Check for any debris or food particles obstructing the rotation mechanism. Clean the feeders thoroughly.
- Ensure the feeders are correctly hooked onto the cage bars and not misaligned.
3. Cage Doors Not Closing Securely
- Inspect the door latches for any damage or misalignment.
- Ensure the cage structure is fully assembled and stable, as a misaligned frame can affect door closure.
