Setup
1. Connecting the Phone
- Connect one end of the coiled handset cord to the handset and the other end to the jack labeled HANDSET on the side of the telephone base.
- Connect one end of the telephone line cord to the jack labeled LINE on the back of the telephone base.
- Connect the other end of the telephone line cord to a standard telephone wall jack.
Note: This phone operates using power from the telephone line and does not require batteries or an AC adapter.
2. Mounting Options
The Emerson SO-EM2116 can be placed on a desk or mounted on a wall.
- Desk Mount: Place the phone on a flat, stable surface. Ensure the cords are not tangled or obstructing pathways.
- Wall Mount: The phone is designed to fit standard wall phone plates. Align the mounting holes on the back of the phone with the studs on the wall plate and slide down to secure.
Operating Instructions
Making and Receiving Calls
- To Make a Call: Lift the handset, wait for a dial tone, then dial the desired number using the keypad.
- To Receive a Call: When the phone rings and the lighted ring indicator flashes, lift the handset to answer.
- To End a Call: Place the handset back into the cradle.
Memory Dialing (10 Numbers)
The phone allows you to store up to 10 frequently called numbers for quick access. The buttons for these functions are located on the handset.
- To Store a Number:
- Lift the handset.
- Press the STORE button (or equivalent memory programming button).
- Dial the telephone number you wish to store (up to 16 digits).
- Press the STORE button again.
- Press a memory location button (e.g., 0-9, or M1-M10) to assign the number to that location.
- Place the handset back in the cradle.
- To Dial a Stored Number:
- Lift the handset.
- Press the RECALL or MEMORY button.
- Press the memory location button (e.g., 0-9, or M1-M10) where the number is stored. The phone will automatically dial the number.

Handset Volume Control
During a call, use the volume control switch or buttons on the side of the handset to adjust the listening volume to a comfortable level.
Mute, Redial, and Flash Functions
- Mute: Press the MUTE button during a call to temporarily disable your microphone. The other party will not hear you. Press MUTE again to resume conversation.
- Redial: Lift the handset and press the REDIAL button to automatically dial the last number called.
- Flash: Press the FLASH button to use call waiting or transfer calls. This function requires subscription to relevant services from your telephone provider.
Ringer On/Off Switch
Locate the RINGER ON/OFF switch on the side or back of the phone. Slide the switch to ON to enable the ringer for incoming calls, or to OFF to silence it.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the phone with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Avoid Liquids: Keep the phone away from water and other liquids.
