Introduction

The Insteon Smart Dimmer Wall Switch 2477D is designed to provide intelligent control over your lighting. This device allows for programmable on-levels and fade on/off speeds, and can be remotely controlled when integrated with an Insteon Hub. It supports dimmable lights up to 150 Watts of LED or 600 Watts incandescent. This manual provides essential information for installation, setup, and operation.

Important Safety Information

• Neutral Wire Requirement: This switch requires a neutral wire for proper operation. Verify the presence of a neutral wire in your electrical box before installation.
• Professional Installation Recommended: Installation involves working with high voltage electricity. If you are not comfortable with electrical wiring, consult a qualified electrician.
• Heat Generation: It is normal for the dimmer switch to feel warm during operation. This is within UL-approved limits and does not pose a safety risk.
• Load Compatibility: Only connect to dimmable incandescent or LED lighting fixtures within the specified wattage limits (600W incandescent, 150W LED). Do not connect to non-dimmable loads or motor loads.

Note: Wall plate is sold separately. Insteon Hub 2 (2245-222) and Insteon Home Connected Access are required for smartphone/voice control and are sold separately.

Installation

Installation must be performed by a qualified person.

1. Turn off Power: At the service panel, turn off the circuit breaker supplying power to the switch you are replacing. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
2. Remove Existing Switch: Carefully remove the existing wall plate and switch from the electrical box. Disconnect all wires from the old switch.
3. Identify Wires: Identify the Line (hot), Load, Neutral, and Ground wires. The Insteon 2477D requires a neutral wire.

4. Connect Wires: Using the included wire nuts, connect the Insteon Dimmer Switch wires to the corresponding wires in the electrical box.
• Black Wire (Insteon) to Line Wire (from service panel)
• Red Wire (Insteon) to Load Wire (to light fixture)
• White Wire (Insteon) to Neutral Wire (from service panel)
• Green/Bare Copper Wire (Insteon) to Ground Wire

5. Mount Switch: Carefully push the wired switch into the electrical box. Secure it with the provided mounting screws.
6. Attach Wall Plate: Install your desired wall plate (sold separately).
7. Restore Power: Turn the circuit breaker back on at the service panel.

Setup and Configuration

To unlock the full smart features of your Insteon Dimmer Wall Switch, an Insteon Hub (sold separately) is required.

1. Download Insteon App: If you haven't already, download the Insteon app on your smartphone or tablet.
2. Add Device in App: Open the Insteon app and follow the instructions to add a new device. Select "Dimmer Switch."
3. Link Switch: When prompted by the app, press and hold the "Set" button on your Insteon Dimmer Switch until you hear a double-beep. The app will then guide you through the linking process.

4. Customize Settings: Within the Insteon app, you can customize various settings for your dimmer switch, including:
• Preset On-Level: Set the default brightness level when the switch is turned on.
• Fade On/Off Speed: Adjust how quickly the lights fade in and out.
• LED Indicator Brightness: Control the brightness of the status LEDs on the switch.
5. Voice Control Integration: If integrated with an Insteon Hub 2 (2245-222) and Insteon Home Connected Access, you can integrate with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant for voice control. Refer to your Insteon Hub documentation for specific instructions on linking with these platforms.

Manual Control

• Turn On/Off: Press the top part of the rocker switch to turn lights on. Press the bottom part to turn lights off.
• Dim/Brighten: Press and hold the top part of the rocker switch to brighten lights. Press and hold the bottom part to dim lights. Release when the desired brightness is reached.
• Status LEDs: The row of LEDs on the left side of the switch indicates the current brightness level.

Remote Control (with Insteon Hub)

• Smartphone/Tablet: Use the Insteon app to turn lights on/off, adjust brightness, and create schedules or scenes.
• Voice Commands: If integrated with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, use voice commands to control your lights (e.g., "Alexa, turn on living room lights," "Hey Google, dim kitchen to 50%").
