- Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
- Guide the thread through the upper thread guides as indicated by the numbered path on the machine.
- Ensure the thread is properly seated in the tension discs.

- Insert the wound bobbin into the bobbin case, ensuring the thread unwinds in the correct direction (usually counter-clockwise).
- Guide the bobbin thread through the tension spring and pull it out a few inches.
- Replace the bobbin cover plate.
Operating Instructions
1. Turning On/Off
Locate the power switch on the side or back of the machine. Flip the switch to the "ON" position to power on the machine. The LED screen will illuminate. To turn off, flip the switch to "OFF".
2. Stitch Selection
The Carina Professional offers 206 stitch programs. Use the large buttons on the control panel to navigate and select your desired stitch. The selected stitch, along with its optimal length and width, will be clearly displayed on the bright LED screen. The screen also indicates the correct presser foot to use for the chosen stitch.
3. Adjusting Stitch Settings
Stitch width and length are continuously adjustable. While each stitch program has a pre-set optimal setting, you can fine-tune these parameters using the dedicated adjustment buttons on the control panel. Refer to the LED screen for real-time display of your adjustments.
4. Using Automatic Needle Threader
To use the automatic needle threader, ensure the needle is in its highest position. Lower the threader mechanism, guide the thread as instructed, and release. The thread will be pulled through the needle eye.
5. Integrated Thread Cutter
After completing a seam, use the integrated thread cutter located on the side of the machine to quickly and cleanly trim both upper and bobbin threads.
6. Needle Stop Function
The machine features a needle stop function, allowing you to set the needle to stop in either the up or down position. This is particularly useful for pivoting fabric at corners (needle down) or removing fabric from the machine (needle up).
7. Speed Adjustment
The sewing speed can be continuously adjusted to match your comfort level and the complexity of your project. Use the speed control slider or buttons (if present) to increase or decrease the sewing speed.
8. Using Different Presser Feet
Your machine comes with a variety of presser feet for different sewing tasks. To change a presser foot, raise the needle and presser foot lever. Press the release button on the back of the presser foot holder to detach the current foot. Align the new presser foot with the holder and lower the presser foot lever until it snaps into place.
- General Purpose Foot: For most basic sewing tasks.
- Zipper Foot: For sewing zippers and piping.
- Satin Stitch Foot: For dense decorative stitches and appliqué.
- Buttonhole Foot: For creating automatic buttonholes.
- Blind Hem Foot: For creating invisible hems.
- Edge Sewing Foot: For precise edge stitching.
- Button Sewing Foot: For attaching buttons.
9. Sewing Tips for Various Materials
The 70W motor allows the machine to handle a wide range of materials, from fine fabrics to heavy denim.
- For delicate fabrics (e.g., silk, chiffon), use a fine needle and adjust tension as needed.
- For stretch fabrics (e.g., jersey, knits), use a ballpoint or stretch needle and a stretch stitch.
- For heavy fabrics (e.g., denim, canvas), use a denim needle and adjust stitch length for stronger seams.
- Always test your stitch settings on a scrap piece of your fabric before sewing your main project.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
Regular cleaning is essential for optimal machine performance.
- Lint and Dust: Use the provided cleaning brush to remove lint and dust from the bobbin area, feed dogs, and around the needle plate.
- Needle Plate: Remove the needle plate (refer to your machine's specific instructions for removal) to clean underneath it.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
2. Needle Replacement
Replace the needle regularly, especially after every 8-10 hours of sewing or if it becomes bent, dull, or breaks. A dull needle can cause skipped stitches, fabric damage, and thread breakage.
- Turn off the machine and unplug it.
- Loosen the needle clamp screw.
- Remove the old needle.
- Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back of the machine, pushing it up as far as it will go.
- Tighten the needle clamp screw securely.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Skipped Stitches | Incorrect needle, bent needle, improper threading, wrong needle size for fabric. | Replace needle, re-thread machine, ensure correct needle type/size. |
| Thread Breakage | Improper threading, incorrect tension, damaged needle, poor quality thread, bobbin wound too tightly/loosely. | Re-thread machine, adjust tension, replace needle, use good quality thread, re-wind bobbin. |
| Fabric Puckering | Tension too high, incorrect stitch length, wrong needle size. | Reduce tension, adjust stitch length, use appropriate needle. |
| Machine Not Starting | Not plugged in, power switch off, foot pedal not connected. | Check power connection, turn on switch, ensure foot pedal is securely connected. |
