2. Safety Information

  • Electrical Hazard: Disconnect power to the heating and cooling system at the main fuse or circuit breaker panel before installing or servicing the thermostat. Failure to do so may result in electrical shock or equipment damage.

  5. Install Batteries: Insert two new AA alkaline batteries into the battery compartment located behind the front battery door. Ensure correct polarity.
  6. Attach Thermostat to Base: Carefully align the thermostat body with the mounting bracket and push it firmly until it snaps into place.
  7. Restore Power: Turn the power back on at the circuit breaker or fuse box.

5. Setup and Programming

After installation, the thermostat will power on. You will need to configure initial settings and program your desired schedule.

5.1 Initial Configuration

5.2 Programming Your Schedule

The Aprilaire 8465 offers 5/2 day or 5/1/1 day programming. This allows you to set different schedules for weekdays (5 days) and weekends (2 days), or weekdays (5 days), Saturday (1 day), and Sunday (1 day).

  1. Enter Program Mode: Press the PROG button. The display will show the current program period (e.g., WAKE) and the day(s) being programmed.
  2. Select Program Period: Use the MODE button to cycle through the four daily program periods: WAKE, LEAVE, RETURN, SLEEP.
  3. Adjust Time and Temperature: For each program period, use the UP and DOWN buttons to set the desired start time and temperature for both heating and cooling.
  4. Advance to Next Day/Period: After setting a period, press PROG again to move to the next program period or day.
  5. Exit Program Mode: Once all desired periods and days are programmed, press the RUN button (or wait for the thermostat to automatically exit program mode after a period of inactivity).

Tip: To switch between 5/2 and 5/1/1 day programming, consult the advanced settings menu, typically accessed by holding down a combination of buttons (refer to the full user manual for specific button combinations).

6. Operating Instructions

Understanding the basic operation of your thermostat ensures optimal comfort and efficiency.

6.1 System Mode Selection

Press the MODE button to cycle through the available system modes:

  • HEAT: The system will only heat your home to the set temperature.

Press the FAN button to cycle through fan settings:

  • AUTO: The fan runs only when the heating or cooling system is actively operating.
  • ON: The fan runs continuously, regardless of whether the heating or cooling system is active.

6.3 Temporary Temperature Adjustment (HOLD)

To temporarily override the programmed schedule:

  1. Use the UP or DOWN buttons to adjust the temperature. The new temperature will be held until the next programmed period begins.
  2. To cancel the temporary hold and resume the schedule, press the RUN button.

To permanently hold a temperature, press the HOLD button after adjusting the temperature. The thermostat will maintain this temperature until the HOLD button is pressed again to release it, or the RUN button is pressed.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures your thermostat operates efficiently and accurately.

7.1 Battery Replacement

The thermostat uses two AA alkaline batteries for backup power and display operation. A low battery warning will appear on the display when replacement is needed.

  1. Open the front battery door, typically located on the right side of the thermostat.
  2. Remove the old batteries.
  3. Insert two new AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery door securely.

Note: Replacing batteries typically does not erase your programmed schedule, but it is good practice to verify settings afterward.
