4.1 Choosing a Location

For optimal protection, install smoke detectors in every sleeping area and on every level of your home, including the basement. Avoid installing in:

4.2 Battery Installation/Activation

The 5806W3 uses one 3V CR123A Lithium battery. If the battery is not pre-installed or needs replacement:

  1. Remove the detector from its mounting bracket by twisting counter-clockwise.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert the CR123A battery, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover.
  5. The detector will chirp briefly and the LED will flash to indicate power-up.

4.3 Mounting the Detector

  1. Position the mounting bracket on the ceiling or wall at your chosen location.
  2. Mark the screw hole locations.
  3. Drill pilot holes if necessary and insert wall anchors.
  4. Secure the mounting bracket with the provided screws.
  5. Align the detector with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise until it locks securely into place.

4.4 Enrolling with the Security System

The 5806W3 is a wireless device and must be enrolled into a compatible Honeywell security system. Refer to your security system's installation manual for specific enrollment procedures. General steps include:

  1. Put your security system into programming mode.
  2. Select a zone for the smoke detector.
  3. Activate the smoke detector's tamper switch (by removing it from the mounting plate) or press the test button to transmit its serial number to the control panel.
  4. Confirm the enrollment on the control panel.
  5. Exit programming mode.

Note: The 5806W3 typically uses a loop number for smoke detection and a separate loop for low battery/supervision. Consult your system's manual for correct loop programming.

5. Operation

5.1 Normal Operation

Under normal conditions, the detector's LED will flash approximately once every 10-12 seconds, indicating proper operation and communication with the control panel.

5.2 Testing the Detector

Test the smoke detector weekly and after any battery replacement or system maintenance.

  1. Press and hold the test button located on the detector's cover for at least 3 seconds.
  2. The detector should emit a loud, pulsating alarm sound.
  3. The LED will flash rapidly.
  4. The alarm signal should be transmitted to the control panel.
  5. Release the test button. The alarm will cease.

Note: If the detector does not alarm during testing, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

5.3 Alarm Conditions

When smoke is detected:

IMPORTANT: If an alarm sounds, evacuate all occupants immediately and call the fire department from a safe location.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Battery Replacement

When the battery is low, the detector will chirp approximately once every 48 seconds, and a low battery signal will be sent to the control panel. Replace the battery immediately.

  1. Twist the detector counter-clockwise to remove it from the mounting bracket.
  2. Open the battery compartment.
  3. Remove the old CR123A Lithium battery.
  4. Insert a new 3V CR123A Lithium battery, observing correct polarity.
  5. Close the battery compartment.
  6. Re-attach the detector to the mounting bracket by twisting clockwise.
  7. Test the detector after battery replacement (refer to Section 5.2).

Note: Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

6.2 Cleaning the Detector

Clean the smoke detector at least once a year to remove dust and debris that could interfere with its operation.

  1. Remove the detector from its mounting bracket.
  2. Gently vacuum the exterior of the detector, especially around the sensing chamber openings, using a soft brush attachment.
  3. Do not use cleaning solvents or spray chemicals directly on the detector.
  4. Re-attach the detector to the mounting bracket.
