Setup

Your Veridian Healthcare Digital Thermometer comes with a sealed LR41 battery pre-installed. No initial battery installation is required.

  1. Clean the Thermometer: Before first use, and after each subsequent use, clean the thermometer probe as described in the "Maintenance and Cleaning" section.
  2. Prepare for Measurement: Ensure the thermometer is at room temperature for accurate readings.

Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to take a temperature reading:

Steps for 60-second temperature measurement: Press power button on, place probe tip under tongue, beeps when reading is complete.

Image: A visual guide demonstrating the three simple steps for taking a temperature: pressing the power button, placing the probe tip under the tongue, and waiting for the beep indicating the reading is complete.

  1. Turn On: Press the POWER button. The last reading will briefly display for 2 seconds, followed by a flashing °F or °C icon, indicating it's ready for a new measurement.
  2. Position the Thermometer:
    • Oral Use: Place the probe tip well under the tongue. Close the mouth and hold the thermometer in place.
    • Rectal Use: Apply a water-based lubricant to the probe tip. Gently insert the tip no more than ½ inch into the rectum. This method is typically used for infants and young children.
    • Underarm (Axillary) Use: Place the probe tip in the armpit so the tip touches the skin. Hold the arm firmly against the body. This method is less accurate and may take longer.
  3. Wait for Reading: The measurement will take approximately 60 seconds. The °F or °C icon will stop flashing, and a tone will sound for approximately 10 seconds when the peak temperature has been reached.
  4. Read Temperature: The temperature will be displayed on the digital screen.
  5. Fever Alert: If the reading is 100.0°F (37.7°C) or higher, a fever alert alarm will sound.
  6. Turn Off: The unit will automatically shut off after 10 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life. You can also press the POWER button to turn it off manually.

Memory Recall

To recall the last measured temperature, simply press the POWER button. The last reading will briefly display for 2 seconds before the thermometer enters measurement mode.

Switching Between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C)

While the unit is still on (after pressing the power button and before taking a new reading), hold the POWER button down. The unit will switch between °F and °C modes. Release the button when your desired mode is displayed.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper cleaning and maintenance ensure the longevity and accuracy of your thermometer.

  • Cleaning: The thermometer is water resistant for easy cleaning. Before and after each use, clean the probe tip with 70% isopropyl alcohol diluted with water, or with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Disinfection: For thorough disinfection, wipe the probe with an alcohol swab (70% isopropyl alcohol) or a cotton ball moistened with alcohol.
  • Storage: Store the thermometer in its hygienic storage half-case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery: The unit contains a sealed LR41 battery with an approximate life of 600 hours of use. The battery is not user-replaceable.
