Battery Installation/Check

The thermometer comes with one LR41 battery pre-installed. If the display does not activate when the power button is pressed, or if a low battery indicator appears, the battery may need replacement. To replace the battery, gently slide off the battery cap located at the end of the thermometer. Insert a new LR41 battery with the positive (+) side facing up. Securely replace the battery cap.

Operating Instructions

Before Measurement

Ensure the thermometer probe is clean before each use. If using for oral or rectal measurement, it is recommended to apply a disposable probe cover for hygiene.

Taking a Temperature

  1. Power On: Press the power button. The display will briefly show all segments, then the last measured temperature for approximately 2 seconds, followed by a flashing 'Lo' and '°F' or '°C'. This indicates the thermometer is ready for measurement.
  2. Position the Thermometer:
    • Oral Use: Place the probe tip under the tongue, as far back as comfortable. Close your lips to hold the thermometer in place.
    • Rectal Use: Lubricate the probe tip with a water-soluble jelly. Gently insert the tip no more than 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) into the rectum. Do not force the tip.
    • Underarm (Axillary) Use: Place the probe tip in the armpit, ensuring direct skin contact. Hold the arm firmly against the body to keep the thermometer in place.
  3. Readout: The thermometer will beep when the measurement is complete, typically within 60 seconds. The display will show the peak temperature. If the measured temperature is 100.0°F (37.7°C) or higher, a distinct fever alert alarm will sound.
  4. Power Off: Press the power button to turn off the thermometer. It will automatically shut off after approximately 10 minutes of inactivity to save battery life.

Switching Between Fahrenheit and Celsius

With the thermometer powered off, press and hold the power button for approximately 5 seconds. The display will change from '°F' to '°C' or vice versa. Release the button to select your desired temperature unit.

Memory Recall

When the thermometer is powered on, the last measured temperature will be displayed for approximately 2 seconds before the 'Lo' indicator appears, allowing you to recall the previous reading.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Cleaning the Thermometer

After each use, especially if a probe cover was not used, clean the thermometer probe. Wipe the tip with a soft cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol (70% ethanol) or soap and water. Do not immerse the entire thermometer in water or other liquids. The thermometer is water-resistant for cleaning purposes, but not fully waterproof.

Storage

Store the thermometer in its protective storage case at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, dust, and excessive humidity.

Battery Replacement

Refer to the "Battery Installation/Check" section under Setup for detailed instructions on replacing the LR41 battery.

Troubleshooting

  • No Display: If the display does not activate, check the battery installation. Replace the LR41 battery if necessary.
  • "Lo" or "Hi" Reading: Ensure proper placement and firm contact with the body during measurement. "Lo" indicates a temperature below the measurable range, while "Hi" indicates a temperature above the measurable range.
  • Inaccurate Readings: Ensure the thermometer is clean. Avoid taking temperature immediately after eating, drinking, or exercising; wait at least 30 minutes. Verify that the probe tip is correctly positioned for the chosen measurement method (oral, rectal, or underarm).
  • Continuous Beeping: This indicates that the temperature measurement is complete. If the temperature is 100.0°F (37.7°C) or higher, the beeping will be a distinct fever alert alarm.
