Culligan ISH-200-C Inline Shower Filter

User Instruction Manual

Introduction

The Culligan ISH-200-C Inline Shower Filter is designed to enhance your showering experience by reducing common water impurities. This filter effectively minimizes sulfur odor, chlorine, and scale, contributing to softer, cleaner skin and hair. Its inline design allows for seamless integration with your existing shower head, providing filtered water without requiring a new shower fixture. This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your Culligan ISH-200-C shower filter.

Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before installing or operating the filter. Failure to follow these instructions could result in property damage or injury.

  • Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free to prevent water damage.
  • Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.
  • This filter is designed for cold water use only. Do not exceed the maximum operating temperature specified in the specifications.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Package Contents

Verify that all components are present before beginning installation:

  • Culligan ISH-200-C Inline Shower Filter Unit
  • WHR-140 Filter Cartridge (pre-installed or separate)
  • Teflon Tape
  • Filter Change Reminder Sticker

Setup and Installation

The Culligan ISH-200-C Inline Shower Filter is designed for easy, tool-free installation with standard 1/2-inch thread shower heads.

  1. Prepare the Shower Arm: Unscrew your existing shower head from the shower arm. Clean any debris or old sealant from the threads of the shower arm.
  2. Apply Teflon Tape: Wrap the provided Teflon tape clockwise around the threads of the shower arm 3-5 times. This helps ensure a watertight seal.
  3. Attach the Filter: Screw the Culligan ISH-200-C Inline Shower Filter onto the shower arm. Hand-tighten until snug. Do not overtighten.
  4. Attach Your Shower Head: Apply Teflon tape to the threads on the outlet of the shower filter. Screw your existing shower head onto the filter. Hand-tighten until snug.
  5. Check for Leaks: Turn on the water and check for any leaks at the connections. If leaks occur, tighten slightly or reapply Teflon tape.

Operation

Once installed, the Culligan ISH-200-C filter operates automatically as water flows through it. The internal WHR-140 cartridge works to reduce various impurities:

  • Chlorine Reduction: Significantly reduces chlorine, which can cause dry skin and hair, and may have an unpleasant odor.
  • Sulfur Odor Reduction: Minimizes the "rotten egg" smell often associated with sulfur in water.
  • Scale Reduction: Helps to reduce the buildup of hard water scale, which can affect shower head performance and leave residue on surfaces.
  • Bacteriostatic Properties: The filter is designed to limit the passage or growth of bacteria that may already exist in the incoming water. Note that this does not mean the water leaving the system is safer than the water entering the system.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance, primarily cartridge replacement, is crucial for optimal filter performance.

Filter Cartridge Replacement

The WHR-140 filter cartridge should be replaced every 6 months or after 10,000 gallons of use, whichever comes first. This ensures continued effectiveness in reducing impurities.

  1. Turn Off Water: Turn off the water supply to your shower.
  2. Remove Shower Head: Unscrew your shower head from the filter unit.
  3. Remove Filter Unit: Unscrew the filter unit from the shower arm.
  4. Open Filter Housing: Carefully separate the two halves of the filter housing. The old cartridge will be inside.
  5. Replace Cartridge: Remove the old WHR-140 cartridge and insert a new one. Ensure it is seated correctly.
  6. Reassemble: Rejoin the two halves of the filter housing, ensuring the O-ring is properly seated to prevent leaks.
  7. Reinstall: Reattach the filter unit to the shower arm and then your shower head to the filter, following the installation steps (remembering to use new Teflon tape).
  8. Flush Filter: Turn on the water and let it run for a few minutes to flush the new cartridge and check for leaks.

Extending Cartridge Life (Temporary)

If water flow begins to lessen before the recommended replacement interval, you may temporarily extend the cartridge life by removing it, flipping it over, and reinstalling it. This can help dislodge trapped sediment and restore flow, but a full replacement will eventually be necessary.
