Introduction

SMARTSTRAPS Retractable Ratchet Straps are designed for securing heavy cargo such as boats, motorcycles, or appliances in pickups or trailers. These straps feature an ergonomic design for optimal performance, including overmolded handles for leverage and comfort. The orange color-coding indicates heavy-duty capacity with a safe work load of 1,000 lbs and a break strength of 3,000 lbs. The retractable design allows for quick and easy tie-down in approximately 15 seconds per strap, eliminating the need to feed straps or tie off loose ends. SmartWeb™ Technology provides webbing that is stronger and more abrasion-resistant than standard tie-down webbing, and a built-in power spring automatically retracts the strap for convenient storage.

What's in the Box

  • Ratchet Straps (2 Pack)

Features

  • Quick & Easy to Use: Install in just 15 seconds per tie-down; no feeding straps, no tying ends off, and no removing webbing from the ratchet. Straps are permanently affixed and self-contained.
  • Heavy Duty Capacity: Orange color signifies heavy-duty use. Super strong, non-marring coated steel S-hooks with a break strength of 3,000 lbs and a safe work load of 1,000 lbs. Ideal for heavier loads in large pickups or medium trailers.
  • Optimal Performance: Overmolded handles are ergonomically designed for comfort and leverage during cargo securement.
  • Convenient Self-Retracting Tie-Downs: Webbing retracts like a tape measure, preventing straps from flying in the wind. A built-in power spring automatically adjusts webbing for easy storage.
  • SmartWeb Technology: Provides stronger and more abrasion-resistant webbing than standard webbing, enhancing load protection.

Setup

Before setup, ensure your cargo is properly positioned and balanced on the trailer or in the vehicle. Inspect the straps for any signs of wear, cuts, or damage. Do not use damaged straps.

Attaching the Straps:

  1. Identify secure anchor points on your vehicle/trailer and on the cargo. These should be strong enough to withstand the load.
  2. Attach one S-hook of the strap to a secure anchor point on your vehicle or trailer.
  3. Extend the strap over or around your cargo to the opposite side.
  4. Attach the other S-hook to a corresponding secure anchor point on the vehicle/trailer. Ensure the strap is not twisted.

Operating Instructions

Tightening the Straps:

  1. With both S-hooks attached, pull the loose end of the strap through the ratchet mechanism until most of the slack is removed.
  2. Operate the ratchet handle by moving it back and forth to tighten the strap. Continue ratcheting until the strap is taut and the cargo is securely held in place. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the cargo or the strap.
  3. Once tightened, ensure the ratchet handle is fully closed and locked into position.

Releasing the Straps:

  1. Locate the release lever on the ratchet mechanism.
  2. Press the release lever and fully open the ratchet handle to release tension. The strap will automatically retract due to the built-in power spring.
  3. Carefully detach the S-hooks from the anchor points.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safety of your SMARTSTRAPS Retractable Ratchet Straps.

  • Inspection: Before each use, thoroughly inspect the webbing for cuts, fraying, excessive abrasion, or chemical damage. Check the S-hooks for bends, cracks, or corrosion. Ensure the ratchet mechanism operates smoothly and locks securely.
  • Cleaning: If straps become dirty, clean them with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and allow them to air dry completely before storage. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents.
  • Storage: Store straps in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and corrosive materials. The retractable feature makes storage compact and tidy.
  • Replacement: Replace straps immediately if any damage is detected. Do not attempt to repair damaged straps.

Troubleshooting

Most issues with ratchet straps can be resolved with proper inspection and usage techniques.

  • Strap Not Tightening: Ensure the webbing is correctly threaded through the ratchet mechanism. Check for any obstructions or debris in the ratchet.
  • Strap Not Releasing: Make sure the release lever is fully engaged and the ratchet handle is completely opened. Sometimes, extreme tension can make initial release difficult; apply slight pressure to the handle while pressing the lever.
  • Webbing Damage: If webbing shows signs of cuts, fraying, or excessive wear, discontinue use immediately and replace the strap. This is a critical safety concern.
  • Hook Deformation: If S-hooks are bent or deformed, do not use the strap. Replace it to prevent load failure.
