5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Cooking Rice
- Measure Rice: Use the provided measuring cup to measure the desired amount of rice. One cup of uncooked rice typically yields about two cups of cooked rice.
- Wash Rice: Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch.
- Add Rice and Water to Inner Pot: Place the washed rice into the stainless steel inner pot. Add the appropriate amount of water. A general guideline is 1:1 ratio for white rice (e.g., 1 cup rice to 1 cup water), but this may vary based on rice type and desired consistency.
- Place Inner Pot: Carefully place the inner pot with rice and water into the main unit (outer pot).
- Add Water to Outer Pot: This rice cooker uses an indirect heating method. Add water to the outer pot, around the inner pot. The amount of water in the outer pot determines the cooking time and intensity. A common recommendation is to add 1 cup of water to the outer pot for every cup of rice being cooked in the inner pot. For example, if cooking 2 cups of rice, add 2 cups of water to the outer pot.
- Cover: Place the stainless steel lid securely on the rice cooker.
- Start Cooking: Ensure the unit is plugged in. Flip the "SWITCH" to the "ON" position. The "COOK" indicator light will illuminate.
- Automatic Shutoff: The rice cooker will automatically switch to "WARM" mode once the water in the outer pot has evaporated and the cooking cycle is complete. The "WARM" indicator light will illuminate.
- Resting Period: For best results, allow the rice to rest in "WARM" mode for 10-15 minutes before serving. This allows the rice to fully absorb moisture and become fluffy.
- Serve: Use the provided rice spatula to fluff and serve the rice.
5.2 Steaming Food
The indirect heating method also makes this appliance suitable for steaming vegetables, dumplings, and other foods.
- Prepare Food: Place the food to be steamed on the steamer plate.
- Add Water to Outer Pot: Pour the appropriate amount of water into the outer pot. The amount depends on the steaming time required for your food. For longer steaming, add more water.
- Assemble: Place the steamer plate with food into the outer pot, ensuring it sits above the water level.
- Cover and Cook: Place the lid on the cooker and turn the "SWITCH" to "ON". The "COOK" light will illuminate.
- Monitor: Steaming time will vary. Monitor the food and turn the switch to "OFF" when done.
5.3 Keep Warm Function
After cooking, the appliance automatically switches to "WARM" mode. This function keeps food at an optimal serving temperature without overcooking or drying it out.
- The "WARM" indicator light will be illuminated when this function is active.
- To turn off the "WARM" function, simply flip the "SWITCH" to the "OFF" position.
- It is recommended not to keep rice in "WARM" mode for more than a few hours to maintain optimal quality.
6. Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning ensures the longevity and hygienic operation of your rice cooker.
- Unplug: Always unplug the appliance from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Inner Pot and Accessories: The stainless steel inner pot, lid, measuring cup, rice spatula, and steamer plate are washable with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely. These parts are not dishwasher safe.
- Outer Pot (Main Unit): Wipe the exterior of the main unit with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the main unit in water or any other liquid. Ensure no water enters the electrical components.
- Heating Plate: If any food particles or residue are on the heating plate at the bottom of the outer pot, gently wipe them clean with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Storage: Store the cleaned and dried rice cooker in a cool, dry place.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Rice is too hard or undercooked. | Insufficient water in inner pot or outer pot. Rice not rested after cooking. | Add slightly more water to the inner pot for future cooking. Ensure enough water is added to the outer pot. Allow rice to rest for 10-15 minutes in "WARM" mode after cooking. |
| Rice is too soft or mushy. | Too much water in inner pot or outer pot. | Reduce water slightly in the inner pot for future cooking. Ensure correct water amount in the outer pot. |
| Cooker does not turn on. | Not plugged in. Power switch is off. | Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working outlet. Flip the "SWITCH" to the "ON" position. |
| Water boiling over. | Too much water in the outer pot. Inner pot overfilled. | Reduce the amount of water in the outer pot. Do not exceed the maximum fill line of the inner pot. |
| Unusual noise during cooking. | Normal operation for indirect heating (boiling water in outer pot). | This is typically normal. If the noise is excessive or unusual, ensure the inner pot is seated correctly and there are no foreign objects. |
