Important Safeguards
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:
- Read all instructions.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles and knobs.
- To protect against electric shock, do not place cord, plug, or appliance in water or other liquids.
- Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
- Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
- Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been dropped or damaged in any manner.
- The use of accessory attachments not recommended by Cuisinart may cause injuries.
- Do not use outdoors.
- Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
- Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
- Always fill water reservoir first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to OFF, then remove plug from wall outlet.
- Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
- Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycle.
- This appliance is for HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY.

Setup
Before First Use
- Wash the carafe, carafe lid, filter basket, and hot water drip tray in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker with a clean, damp cloth.
- Insert the charcoal water filter into its holder in the coffeemaker's water reservoir.
- Run two full cycles of plain water through both the coffeemaker and hot water systems to clean internal components.
Operating Instructions
Brewing Coffee
- Fill the coffeemaker's water reservoir with cold, fresh water to your desired level (up to 12 cups). The water level indicator is on the side.
- Place a #4 cone paper filter or the reusable gold-tone filter into the filter basket.
- Add your desired amount of ground coffee to the filter. (General recommendation: 1 tablespoon per cup).
- Close the coffeemaker lid.
- Place the empty carafe on the heating plate.
- Select your desired carafe temperature setting (Low, Medium, or High) using the CARAFE TEMP dial.
- Press the ON/OFF button to start brewing. The blue BREW light will illuminate.
- To use the 1-4 cup setting for smaller batches, press the 1-4 button before pressing ON/OFF.
- To program a delayed brew, set the clock, then set the AUTO ON time using the PROG button, and finally turn the function knob to AUTO ON.
Using the Hot Water System
- Open the hot water reservoir lid and fill with cold, fresh water up to the MAX line.
- Close the hot water reservoir lid.
- Place your mug or cup on the removable drip tray beneath the hot water dispenser.
