Setup

1. Connecting the Power Supply

  1. Connect the power supply unit (PS180) to the printer's power input port.
  2. Plug the AC power cable into the power supply unit.
  3. Insert the AC power cable into a standard electrical outlet.
  4. Press the power button on the front of the printer to turn it on. The power indicator light should illuminate.

2. Loading Thermal Paper

  1. Open the printer's roll paper cover by pushing the lever on the right side and lifting the cover.
  2. Insert a new roll of thermal paper into the paper compartment. Ensure the paper feeds from the bottom of the roll and the leading edge is straight.
  3. Pull approximately 2-3 inches of paper past the cutter.
  4. Close the roll paper cover firmly until it clicks into place. The printer will automatically feed the paper to the correct starting position.

3. Connecting to a Computer/POS System

The TM-T88V supports USB and Serial (RS232) connectivity.

  • USB Connection: Connect a USB cable (Type A to Type B, not included) from your computer or POS system to the USB port on the printer.
  • Serial Connection: Connect a Serial (RS232 25-pin, not included) cable from your computer or POS system to the Serial port on the printer.

After connecting, install the appropriate printer drivers for your operating system (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux). Drivers are typically available on the Epson support website.

Operating Instructions

Printing a Receipt

Once the printer is set up and drivers are installed, it will function as a standard printer for your POS software or application. Send print commands from your software, and the printer will automatically print and cut the receipt.

  • Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to your system.
  • Verify that thermal paper is loaded correctly and not jammed.
  • Initiate the print command from your point-of-sale application.
  • The printer will print the receipt and automatically cut the paper.

LED Indicators

  • Power LED: Indicates the printer is powered on.
  • Error LED: Illuminates or flashes to indicate an error condition (e.g., paper out, cover open, cutter error). Refer to the Troubleshooting section.
  • Paper LED: Illuminates when paper is low or out.

Maintenance

Replacing Thermal Paper

When the Paper LED illuminates or the printer stops printing, the thermal paper roll needs replacement. Follow the steps outlined in the "Loading Thermal Paper" section under Setup.

Cleaning the Printer

Regular cleaning helps maintain print quality and extends printer life.

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol to clean the exterior of the printer.
  • To clean the thermal print head, open the paper cover and gently wipe the print head surface with a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Allow it to dry completely before closing the cover and powering on.
  • Clean the paper path and cutter area to remove any paper dust or debris.

Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the printer's surfaces.
