3. Setup

3.1 Initial Winding

As an automatic watch, the SKX009K1 is powered by the motion of your wrist. If the watch has stopped, gently swing it from side to side in an arc for about 30 seconds to initiate movement. This will provide enough power for it to start ticking. For optimal performance, wear the watch regularly.

3.2 Setting the Time and Date

  1. Unscrew the Crown: The crown is located at the 4 o'clock position. Rotate it counter-clockwise until it is free from the case.
  2. Set the Date and Day: Pull the crown out to the first click. Rotate the crown clockwise to set the date and counter-clockwise to set the day. Avoid setting the date and day between 9:00 PM and 4:00 AM, as this can damage the movement.
  3. Set the Time: Pull the crown out to the second click. The second hand will stop. Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To ensure accuracy, synchronize with a reliable time source.
  4. Secure the Crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back in and screw it clockwise firmly against the case. This ensures water resistance.

4. Operation

4.1 Using the Unidirectional Bezel

The SKX009K1 features a 120-click unidirectional rotating bezel, designed to measure elapsed time, particularly useful for diving or timing other activities.

  1. Rotate the Bezel: Turn the bezel counter-clockwise to align the triangle marker (or desired minute marker) with the minute hand.
  2. Measure Elapsed Time: The minute hand will then indicate the elapsed time against the bezel's scale. The bezel only rotates counter-clockwise to prevent accidental increases in measured time, which is a critical safety feature for divers.

4.2 Water Resistance

This watch is rated for 200 meters (20 bar) water resistance. This means it is suitable for skin diving and general water sports. However, it is not suitable for saturation diving. Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before exposing the watch to water.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

Wipe the watch regularly with a soft, dry cloth. After exposure to saltwater, rinse the watch thoroughly with fresh water and dry it completely. Do not use chemical cleaners or solvents.

5.2 Strap Care

The rubber strap is durable but can degrade over time with exposure to chemicals, extreme temperatures, or prolonged sunlight. Clean it with mild soap and water. Avoid bending or twisting the strap excessively.

5.3 Service

For optimal performance and to maintain water resistance, it is recommended to have your watch inspected and serviced by an authorized Seiko service center every 2-3 years. This includes checking gaskets and lubricating moving parts.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
