Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance of your thermostat. If you are unsure about any steps, consult a qualified HVAC technician.

1. What's in the Box

2. Powering the Thermostat

The LUX PSP511C thermostat operates with dual power. It can be powered by your HVAC system (24 Volts) or by the included 2 AA alkaline batteries. The batteries also provide memory storage for your settings in case of power interruption, eliminating the need for a C-wire connection.

3. Mounting and Wiring

Mount the thermostat on a wall using the provided screws and anchors. Ensure the location is away from direct sunlight, drafts, or heat sources that could affect temperature readings. Connect the wiring according to your HVAC system type (1 Heat, 1 Cool). Use the wire labels for clear identification.

This thermostat is compatible with Gas/Oil/Electric Furnace (Heating only), Gas/Oil/Electric Furnace (Single Stage), Heat Pump without Auxiliary Heat, 2-wire Hydronic (Hot Water), 750 Millivolt, and Gas Fireplaces (24V). For cooling, it supports Cooling only and Single stage cooling. It is NOT compatible with Heat Pump Multistage, Cool Multistage, Radiant Ceiling Heat, Electric Baseboards, Portable space heaters, Plug-in air conditioners, Gas/Oil/Electric Furnace (Multistage), Heat Pump with Auxiliary Heat, or 3-wire Hydronic (Hot Water).

Operating Instructions

The PSP511C thermostat features an intuitive control panel for easy temperature management.

1. Setting Time and Day

  • Rotate the dial to SET DAY/TIME.
  • Press UP or DOWN to change the day.
  • Press NEXT to advance to time setting.
  • Press UP or DOWN to change the time.
  • Rotate the dial to RUN position to save settings and close the door.

2. Temperature Control

  • Use the Temperature Mode Switch to select HEAT, OFF, or COOL.
  • Use the Fan Mode Switch to select AUTO (fan runs only when heating/cooling) or ON (fan runs continuously).
  • Adjust the desired temperature using the UP/DOWN arrow buttons.

3. Programming Schedules (5-2 Day)

The thermostat allows for separate programming for weekdays (5 days) and weekends (2 days), with up to 4 periods per day (Morning, Day, Evening, Night) for both heating and cooling.

  • Rotate the dial to WEEKDAY PROGRAM or WEEKEND PROGRAM.
  • Press UP/DOWN to set the start time for the first period (e.g., MORNING).
  • Press NEXT to advance to the temperature setting for that period.
  • Press UP/DOWN to set the desired temperature.
  • Continue this process for all 4 periods and then for the weekend program if applicable.
  • Rotate the dial to RUN position to activate the program.

4. Temporary Temperature Override and Hold

  • Temporary Override: Press UP or DOWN to set a desired temperature. The new set point will remain until the next programmed period change.
  • Temperature Hold: Press the HOLD button. The thermostat will maintain the current temperature indefinitely until HOLD is pressed again or the dial is rotated.

5. Keypad Lockout

The keypad lockout feature prevents unauthorized changes to settings. Refer to the full instruction manual for specific steps on how to activate and deactivate this feature.

Maintenance

1. Battery Replacement

The thermostat uses 2 AA alkaline batteries. Replace them annually or when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Open the front cover to access the battery compartment.

2. Air Filter Monitor

The thermostat includes an air filter monitor feature. When the "AIR FILTER" indicator appears, it's time to check or replace your HVAC system's air filter. After replacing the filter, press the AIR FILTER button to reset the timer.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your thermostat, try the following common solutions:

  • No Display/Power: Check batteries and ensure they are installed correctly. Verify power to the HVAC system.
  • Incorrect Temperature Reading: Ensure the thermostat is not exposed to direct sunlight, drafts, or heat sources.
  • System Not Responding: Check the Fan and Temperature mode switches. Ensure the program is set correctly or try a temporary override. Verify wiring connections.
  • Programming Issues: Ensure the dial is in the correct programming position (WEEKDAY PROGRAM/WEEKEND PROGRAM) and that you are pressing NEXT to advance through settings.
  • Resetting the Thermostat: If issues persist, press the RESET button (often a small pinhole button) to return to factory default settings. You will need to re-enter time, day, and program settings.
