5. Setup

5.1 Placement

Place the Teac AD-800 on a stable, level surface. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for proper ventilation (at least 10 cm on all sides). Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources, and areas with high humidity or dust.

5.2 Connecting to Power

  1. Ensure the unit's power switch is in the OFF position.
  2. Connect the supplied AC power cord to the AC IN jack on the rear panel of the AD-800.
  3. Plug the other end of the power cord into a suitable wall outlet.

The AD-800 requires connection to an amplifier or receiver and speakers for audio output. It also has audio input for connecting external devices.

6.1 Basic Operation

6.2 CD Player Operation

  1. Press the CD OPEN/CLOSE button to open the CD tray.
  2. Place a CD (audio CD, CD-R/RW, or MP3 CD) onto the tray with the label side facing up.
  3. Press the CD OPEN/CLOSE button again to close the tray. The display will show "READING" and then the total number of tracks/time.
  4. Press the PLAY (►) button to start playback.
  5. To pause, press the PAUSE (⏸) button. Press again to resume.
  6. To stop, press the STOP (■) button.
  7. To skip tracks, use the SKIP (⏭︎ / ⏮︎) buttons.
  8. To fast forward/rewind within a track, hold down the SEARCH (⏪︎ / ⏩︎) buttons.
  9. Repeat Playback: Press the REPEAT button to cycle through repeat modes (e.g., repeat one track, repeat all tracks).
  10. Shuffle Playback: The unit supports shuffle play (random programming) as indicated by "SHUFFLE PLAY/RANDOM MEMORY PROGRAMMING" on the front panel. Refer to the remote control for specific shuffle activation.

6.3 Cassette Deck Operation

  1. Press the EJECT (⏏) button to open the cassette compartment.
  2. Insert a cassette tape with the desired side facing forward. Close the compartment manually.
  3. Press the PLAY (►) button to start playback.
  4. To pause, press the PAUSE (⏸) button. Press again to resume.
  5. To stop, press the STOP (■) button.
  6. To fast forward or rewind, press the FF (⏩︎) or REW (⏪︎) buttons.
  7. Auto Reverse: The deck automatically reverses tape direction at the end of a side. The "AUTO REVERSE" indicator will show the current direction.
  8. Dolby NR: Press the DOLBY NR button to activate or deactivate Dolby B Noise Reduction. This helps reduce tape hiss.
  9. Pitch Control: Use the PITCH CONTROL knob to slightly adjust the playback speed of the cassette tape.

6.4 USB Playback

  1. Insert a USB memory device (formatted to FAT16/FAT32) containing MP3 files into the USB port on the front panel.
  2. Press the SOURCE button until "USB" is selected.
  3. Use the playback controls (Play, Pause, Stop, Skip) to navigate and play MP3 files. The display will show track information.
  4. Use the FOLDER buttons (if available on remote or unit) to navigate through folders on the USB device.

6.5 Recording to USB (MP3)

The Teac AD-800 allows recording from CD, cassette, or an external AUX input directly to a USB memory device in MP3 format.

  1. Insert a USB memory device into the USB port. Ensure it has sufficient free space.
  2. Select Source: Press the SOURCE button to select the desired input for recording (CD, TAPE, or AUX).
    • For CD: Load a CD into the tray.
    • For Tape: Load a cassette into the deck.
    • For AUX: Ensure an external device is connected to the rear panel AUDIO IN jacks and is playing audio.
  3. Adjust Recording Level: Use the REC LEVEL knob to adjust the input level. Monitor the level meter on the display to avoid distortion (peaking in the red).
  4. Start Recording:
    • For CD: Start CD playback, then press the RECORD (●) button. The unit may offer synchronized recording from CD.
    • For Tape/AUX: Press the RECORD (●) button, then start playback on the tape deck or external device.
  5. Stop Recording: Press the STOP (■) button. The recorded MP3 file will be saved to the USB device.
  6. Timer Recording: The unit supports timer recording for tape. Consult the remote control instructions for setting up timer functions.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning the Unit

Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents. For stubborn stains, lightly dampen the cloth with water and a mild detergent, then wipe dry.

7.2 CD Lens Cleaning

If CD playback becomes erratic, the CD lens may be dirty. Use a commercially available CD lens cleaner disc to clean the lens. Do not attempt to clean the lens manually.

7.3 Cassette Head Cleaning

Regularly clean the cassette deck's heads, pinch rollers, and capstans to ensure optimal sound quality and prevent tape damage. Use a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Perform this cleaning after every 10-20 hours of tape playback or recording.
