1. Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the proper assembly, operation, and maintenance of your Fotodiox Speedring (SR-Kit-ELI). This speedring is designed to connect various softboxes to Elinchrom Monolights, including Prolinca, BXRi Style, D-lite, Ranger, and EL Series Strobe Lights.
1.1 Package Contents
- 1x Speedring Insert
- 1x Speedring Base Plate
2. Safety Information
- Ensure all components are securely fastened before use to prevent equipment damage or injury.
- Do not overtighten screws, as this may strip threads or damage components.
- Handle with care to avoid dropping, which could deform the metal components.
- Keep away from moisture and extreme temperatures.
3. Product Overview
The Fotodiox Speedring consists of two primary parts: the insert, which connects to the strobe light, and the base plate, which holds the softbox rods. Together, they form a robust connection system for various lighting modifiers.

Figure 3.1: The Fotodiox Speedring, showing the insert and base plate components. This image displays the full assembly of the speedring, highlighting its robust metal construction and the various slots for softbox rods and the strobe mount.

Figure 3.2: A detailed view of the Fotodiox Speedring, illustrating the mounting points for softbox rods and the Elinchrom strobe connection. This perspective emphasizes the design of the locking mechanisms and the smooth surface for assembly.
4. Setup Instructions
- Attach Speedring Insert to Strobe: Align the Fotodiox Speedring insert with the mounting mechanism on your Elinchrom Monolight (Prolinca, BXRi Style, D-lite, Ranger, or EL Series Strobe Light). Gently push and rotate the speedring until it locks securely into place. Ensure it is fully seated and cannot be easily removed.
- Assemble Softbox: Follow your softbox manufacturer's instructions to assemble the softbox frame. Insert the softbox rods into the designated holes on the Fotodiox Speedring base plate. The speedring is designed to fit standard 1/4" (6mm-7mm) rods.
- Secure Softbox: Once all rods are inserted, ensure the softbox fabric is properly stretched and secured over the frame. The speedring features a rotation ring with a thumb screw lock, allowing for precise positioning of the softbox.
- Final Check: Before use, double-check that both the speedring is firmly attached to the strobe and the softbox rods are securely seated in the speedring.
5. Operation
The Fotodiox Speedring allows for rotation of the attached softbox. To adjust the orientation of your softbox, loosen the thumb screw on the rotation ring, rotate the softbox to the desired angle, and then tighten the thumb screw to lock it in position. This feature provides flexibility in directing your light source.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the metal surfaces with a dry, soft cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the speedring in a dry, cool place when not in use. Protect it from impacts that could cause deformation.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the speedring for any signs of wear, damage, or loose components. Ensure the thumb screw operates smoothly.
7. Troubleshooting
- Speedring does not lock onto strobe:
- Ensure the speedring insert is correctly aligned with the strobe's mounting mechanism.
- Verify that the strobe model is compatible with Elinchrom-style mounts.
- Check for any obstructions or debris in the mounting area.
- Softbox rods do not fit or are loose:
- Confirm that your softbox uses standard 1/4" (6mm-7mm) rods.
- Ensure rods are fully inserted into the speedring holes.
- Rotation ring is stiff or loose:
- Check the thumb screw. Loosen to rotate, tighten to secure.
- Ensure no debris is obstructing the rotation mechanism.
