SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap User Manual

Model: SUR001

Product Overview

The SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap is designed to provide secure and convenient access for your cat while preventing entry by unwanted animals. It operates by reading your cat's unique implanted identification microchip, ensuring only authorized pets can enter your home. This battery-operated cat door features a sleek, modern design and is compatible with common microchip types.

The cat flap is engineered for low power consumption, utilizing four AA non-rechargeable alkaline batteries (not included) which can last up to a year with normal use. A low battery indicator light signals when replacement is needed. Its robust door and locking mechanism are designed to deter intruders, and it includes a 4-way manual lock for additional control over your cat's access.

Setup and Installation

Before installation, ensure you have four AA non-rechargeable alkaline batteries. The cat flap is designed for easy fitting into doors, windows, or walls. The clear plastic flap opening measures 4 3/4 inches (H) by 5 5/8 inches (W), which is the smallest area your cat will need to pass through.

The unit includes two main parts: the primary unit with the flap and battery compartment, and an exterior frame. The primary unit has a depth of approximately 2.75 inches (a little over 2 and 3/4 inches), allowing for installation in various door thicknesses. It is secured using screws provided in three different lengths (1.5 inch, 2 inch, and 3 inch) to accommodate varying door or wall depths. Screw caps are included for a clean finish. Important: Do not use a drill or saw on the unit itself, as indicated by warning symbols on the product.

For thicker installations, such as walls, optional tunnel extensions are available from SureFlap. The unit features weather stripping around the flap to help maintain indoor temperatures, preventing heat loss in winter and cool air loss in summer.

Operating Instructions

The SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap is designed for simple one-button programming. To register your cat's microchip, press the programming button located near the battery compartment. Once activated, the cat flap will learn your cat's existing identification microchip as they pass through. It can store up to 32 cat identities in its memory.

The cat flap's locking mechanism is controlled by the microchip reader. When a registered cat approaches, a small mechanism (referred to as a "nougat" in the video) will move to unlock the flap, allowing the cat to push it open. The flap is designed to swing both inward and outward. It also features a magnetic stop to hold the flap in place when not in use, ensuring a secure closure.

The cat flap is compatible with 9 (Avid Secure), 10 (FDXA), and 15 (FDXB) digit microchip numbers. If your cat is not microchipped, programmable collar tags are sold separately. The 4-way manual lock allows you to set the flap to any combination of in/out access, providing flexibility for your pet's movements.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

For optimal performance, regularly wipe the cat flap clean. The clear plastic flap can be cleaned with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Avoid using abrasive cleaners that could scratch the surface.

The cat flap requires four AA non-rechargeable alkaline batteries. Always change all four batteries at the same time. A low battery indicator light will flash red when the batteries are running low, signaling that they need to be replaced soon. Ensure correct battery polarity when inserting new batteries. If the batteries are exhausted or there is a problem with the battery compartment, remove the batteries and check for any corrosion.

If the cat flap is not responding to your cat's microchip, ensure the batteries are not depleted. Also, verify that your cat's microchip is correctly registered with the device. If issues persist, consult the detailed user manual for further troubleshooting steps.
