5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Threading the Machine

  1. Ensure the needle is in its highest position by rotating the rotary wheel.
  2. Place a threaded bobbin onto the bobbin pin. If using a larger thread spool, use the included extension spindle.
  3. Guide the thread through the first thread guide.
  4. Pass the thread through the tension control mechanism.
  5. Continue guiding the thread through the remaining thread guides towards the needle.
  6. Use the needle threader to pass the thread through the eye of the needle from front to back. Pull approximately 4-6 inches of thread through the needle eye.

5.2 Preparing to Sew

  1. Lift the fastening plate (presser foot) using the lever.
  2. Place the fabric under the fastening plate, aligning the desired sewing line with the needle.
  3. Lower the fastening plate onto the fabric.
  4. Ensure the needle is slightly above the fabric at the starting point.

5.3 Making a Stitch

  1. Hold the fabric gently with one hand, guiding it straight.
  2. Press the ON/OFF switch to start sewing. The machine will create a single chain stitch.
  3. Guide the fabric slowly and steadily. Do not pull or push the fabric forcefully.
  4. To stop sewing, release the ON/OFF switch.
  5. To secure the stitch, cut the thread, leaving a tail. Pull the fabric away from the machine, and then pull the loop of the last stitch to create a knot.

7. Maintenance

Regular care ensures optimal performance of your mending machine.

  • Cleaning: Periodically use a small brush to remove lint and dust from the needle area and fastening plate.

  • Storage: Store the machine in a dry, clean place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove batteries if the machine will not be used for an extended period.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Machine Not Turning On:
    • Check battery installation and ensure correct polarity.
    • Replace old batteries with fresh alkaline batteries.
    • Ensure the ON/OFF switch is fully engaged.
  • Skipped Stitches:
    • Re-thread the machine carefully, ensuring the thread is correctly seated in all guides and tension control.
    • Replace the needle; a bent or dull needle can cause skipped stitches.
    • Ensure the fabric is not too thick for the machine.
  • Thread Breaking:
    • Check thread tension; it may be too tight.
    • Inspect the needle for burrs or bends.
    • Ensure the thread is not snagging on the bobbin or thread guides.
    • Use good quality thread.
  • Fabric Not Moving:
    • Ensure the fastening plate is lowered onto the fabric.
    • Guide the fabric gently; do not force it.
