2. Safety Information

  • Electrical Safety: Always ensure the toaster is unplugged from the mains supply before cleaning or if it is not in use. Do not immerse the toaster, cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
  • Heat Warning: The exterior surfaces of the toaster can become very hot during operation. Always use the controls and avoid touching hot surfaces. Allow the toaster to cool completely before handling or cleaning.
  • Proper Placement: Place the toaster on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from flammable materials such as curtains or walls. Ensure adequate ventilation around the appliance.
  • Food Items: Do not toast items that are too large or irregularly shaped, as they may get stuck. Never insert metal objects into the toaster slots.
  • Crumb Tray: Regularly empty the crumb tray to prevent the build-up of crumbs, which can pose a fire hazard.
  • Supervision: This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  • Damaged Cord: If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

3. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the toaster from its packaging. Retain the packaging for future storage or transport if needed.
  2. Placement: Position the toaster on a flat, stable, and heat-resistant surface. Ensure there is sufficient space around the toaster for ventilation, at least 10 cm (4 inches) from walls or other appliances.
  3. First Use: Before toasting food for the first time, operate the toaster without bread on a medium setting (e.g., '3' on the browning control) for a few cycles. This will burn off any manufacturing residues and eliminate initial odors. Ensure the area is well-ventilated during this process.
  4. Power Connection: Plug the toaster into a grounded electrical outlet. Ensure the voltage rating of the toaster matches your local power supply.

4.1. Basic Toasting

  1. Insert Bread: Place slices of bread into the desired toasting slots.
  2. Select Slots: Use the individual slot selector switches (located above the browning dial) to activate only the slots you intend to use. This saves energy. For example, if toasting one slice, activate only one slot.
  3. Set Browning: Turn the browning control dial (the larger dial) to your desired level of browning. Settings typically range from 1 (light) to 8 (dark).
  4. Lower Lever: Push down the 'Pick & Pop' lever (the black knob on the front) to lower the bread into the toaster. The toaster will begin toasting.
  5. Ejection: The toaster features a manual timer. When the timer reaches zero, the toast will automatically pop up. You can also manually lift the 'Pick & Pop' lever at any time to check the toast or remove it.

4.2. Defrost Function

To toast frozen bread, place the bread in the slots, select the desired slots, and then turn the browning control dial to the snowflake symbol (❄) before selecting your browning level. This will extend the toasting time to properly defrost and toast the bread.

4.3. Bagel Function

The bagel function toasts only the cut side of the bagel while warming the outer side. To use, slice your bagel and place it into the slots with the cut side facing inwards. Select the desired slots and turn the browning control dial to the bagel symbol (◯) before selecting your browning level.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your Dualit toaster. Always unplug the toaster and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.

5.1. Crumb Tray Cleaning

  1. Unplug: Ensure the toaster is unplugged from the power outlet.
  2. Remove Tray: Locate the crumb tray at the bottom of the toaster. Pull the tray out completely.
  3. Empty: Dispose of accumulated crumbs.
  4. Clean: Wipe the tray with a damp cloth. For stubborn residue, a mild detergent can be used, but ensure the tray is thoroughly dried before reinserting.
  5. Reinsert: Slide the crumb tray back into its position until it clicks securely.
