2. Setup

2.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure you have the JBL On Stage Micro II unit, the power supply, and the USB cable.

2.2 Powering the Unit

The JBL On Stage Micro II can be powered in two ways:

AC Power

Connect the included power supply to the DC input on the unit and then to a standard wall outlet.

Battery Power

For portable use, insert four AAA batteries into the battery compartment located on the underside of the unit. Ensure correct polarity.

2.3 Connecting Your iPod/iPhone

The JBL On Stage Micro II features a Universal Dock Connector compatible with most iPhone and iPod models.

  1. Gently place your compatible iPod or iPhone model onto the dock connector.
  2. Ensure the device is seated firmly. When connected to AC power, the system's Evercharge topography will begin charging your device even if the unit is switched off.

2.4 Connecting External Audio Devices

For devices without a Universal Dock Connector, such as an iPod shuffle or other MP3 players, use the 3.5mm auxiliary input.

  • Connect one end of a 3.5mm audio cable (not included) to your external device's headphone jack.
  • Connect the other end to the auxiliary input port on the JBL On Stage Micro II.

3. Operation

3.1 Basic Playback

Once your iPod or iPhone is docked or an external device is connected via auxiliary input, power on the JBL On Stage Micro II. Your device should automatically begin playing or be ready for playback.

3.2 Using the Remote Control

The included IR remote control provides full iPod/iPhone functionality from distances up to 20 feet straight ahead in front of the unit.

  • Power Button: Turns the unit on/off.
  • Volume Up/Down: Adjusts the speaker volume.
  • Track Navigation: Skips to the next or previous track.
  • Play/Pause: Controls playback.
  • Menu Navigation: Allows browsing of iPod/iPhone menus.

3.3 Volume Control

Adjust the volume using the controls on the unit or the remote control. Note that the volume level will reset to a medium state each time the Micro II is turned off and on.

3.4 Syncing with iTunes

Connect the JBL On Stage Micro II to your computer using the provided USB cable. This allows you to sync and charge your docked iPod or iPhone with iTunes.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

To clean the unit, use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols, as these may damage the finish or internal components.

4.2 Battery Replacement

If using battery power, replace all four AAA batteries when the unit's performance diminishes. Ensure the unit is powered off before replacing batteries.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 No Sound

  • Ensure the unit is powered on and connected to a power source (AC or fresh batteries).
  • Check that your iPod/iPhone is properly docked or the auxiliary cable is securely connected.
  • Verify the volume is not set to minimum on both the JBL On Stage Micro II and your connected device.
  • If using an iPod/iPhone, try re-seating it in the dock connector.

5.2 Device Not Charging

  • Ensure the JBL On Stage Micro II is connected to AC power. Charging does not occur on battery power alone.
  • Verify the iPod/iPhone is correctly seated in the dock connector.

5.3 Remote Control Not Working

  • Check the battery in the remote control and replace if necessary.
  • Ensure there are no obstructions between the remote and the unit's IR receiver.
  • The remote works best when pointed directly at the unit from up to 20 feet away.

5.4 Poor Sound Quality

  • For docked devices, ensure the device's equalizer settings are not causing distortion (e.g., excessive bass boost).
  • If using the auxiliary input, ensure the cable is fully inserted and not damaged.
  • Try adjusting the volume on both the source device and the JBL On Stage Micro II.
