  1. Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the outlet you are replacing or installing. Turn it OFF. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
  2. Remove Old Receptacle (if applicable): Unscrew the wall plate and then the mounting screws holding the old receptacle to the electrical box. Carefully pull the old receptacle out of the box.
  3. Disconnect Wires: Loosen the terminal screws and disconnect the wires from the old receptacle. Note which wire was connected to which terminal (hot, neutral, ground).
  4. Prepare Wires: If necessary, strip approximately 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the wires. Ensure wire ends are clean and straight.

6. Operating Instructions

Once properly installed and power is restored, the Leviton 5362-SI receptacle functions as a standard electrical outlet. Simply insert the plug of your electrical device into one of the two available receptacles. Ensure the plug is fully inserted for a secure connection.

This receptacle is designed for devices requiring up to 20 Amps at 125 Volts. Do not overload the circuit by plugging in devices that collectively exceed the circuit's rating.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: To clean the receptacle, first turn off power at the circuit breaker. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the surface. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the receptacle is completely dry before restoring power.
  • Periodic Inspection: Periodically inspect the receptacle for any signs of damage, such as cracks, discoloration, or loose connections. If any damage is observed, turn off power immediately and have the receptacle inspected and replaced by a qualified electrician.
  • Tightness of Connections: If you suspect a loose connection, turn off power and have a qualified electrician check and tighten all terminal screws.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No Power at Receptacle:
    • Check the circuit breaker or fuse box. A tripped breaker or blown fuse will cut power to the circuit. Reset the breaker or replace the fuse.
    • Ensure the receptacle is properly wired. If unsure, consult a qualified electrician.
    • Verify that the power supply to the electrical box is active using a voltage tester.
  • Loose Plug Connection: If plugs feel loose in the receptacle, the internal contacts may be worn. The receptacle should be replaced by a qualified electrician.
  • Overheating: If the receptacle feels warm to the touch, immediately disconnect any devices and turn off power. This could indicate an overload or a faulty connection. Consult a qualified electrician.
