  • 1 x Leviton 20-Amp, 125-Volt, Tamper-Resistant, Duplex Receptacle (Model TBR20-E)

5. Setup and Installation

Before You Begin:

  1. Turn OFF power to the circuit at the service panel (circuit breaker or fuse box).

  3. Ensure you have the necessary tools: screwdriver (Phillips/flathead), wire strippers, electrical tape, voltage tester.

Wiring Instructions:

  1. Carefully remove the existing receptacle (if any) from the wall box.
  2. Identify the wires: Black (Hot), White (Neutral), Green or bare copper (Ground).
  3. Strip approximately 1/2 inch of insulation from each wire end.
  4. Connect the wires to the appropriate terminal screws on the new receptacle:
    • Green or bare copper ground wire to the green grounding screw.
    • White neutral wire to the silver terminal screw.
    • Black hot wire to the brass terminal screw.

6. Operating Instructions

The Leviton Tamper-Resistant Duplex Receptacle functions like a standard electrical outlet. Simply insert a compatible electrical plug into either of the two receptacles. The internal shutter mechanism of the tamper-resistant design requires simultaneous pressure on both slots to allow a plug to be inserted, preventing foreign objects from entering the contacts.

7. Maintenance

This Leviton receptacle requires minimal maintenance. Periodically inspect the receptacle for any signs of damage, such as cracks, discoloration, or loose connections. Ensure the wallplate is securely fastened. Clean the surface with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

8. Troubleshooting

If the receptacle is not functioning correctly, consider the following:

  • No Power: Check the circuit breaker or fuse in your service panel. Reset the breaker or replace the fuse if tripped or blown.
  • Loose Plug: Ensure the plug is fully inserted into the receptacle. The heavy-duty brass contacts are designed for secure retention.
  • Tamper-Resistant Mechanism: If a plug is difficult to insert, ensure you are applying even pressure to both blades simultaneously. Do not force the plug.
  • Damaged Receptacle: If the receptacle shows signs of physical damage, overheating, or burning, turn off power immediately and replace the unit.

If issues persist after troubleshooting, consult a qualified electrician.
