2. Safety Instructions
WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Ventilation: Always use the soldering station in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling fumes. Consider using a fume extractor.
- Eye Protection: Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from solder splashes and fumes.
- Hot Surfaces: The soldering iron tip and heating element reach very high temperatures. Avoid direct contact with skin. Always place the iron in its designated stand when not in use.
- Electrical Safety:
- Ensure the power supply voltage matches the requirements of the soldering station.
- Do not operate the station with a damaged power cord or plug.
- Keep the work area dry. Do not expose the station to water or moisture.
- Unplug the station from the power outlet before cleaning or performing maintenance.
- Flammable Materials: Keep flammable materials away from the soldering area.
- Children and Pets: Keep the soldering station and all related tools out of reach of children and pets.

4. Setup
- Placement: Place the soldering station on a stable, heat-resistant, and non-flammable surface. Ensure adequate space around the unit for ventilation.
- Sponge Preparation: Moisten the cleaning sponge with clean water. Squeeze out excess water so it is damp, not dripping wet. Place the damp sponge into the designated tray on the soldering iron stand.
- Connect Soldering Iron: Insert the plug of the soldering iron cable firmly into the corresponding socket on the front panel of the soldering station.
- Position Iron Stand: Place the soldering iron stand in a convenient and safe location, ensuring the iron can be easily placed and removed without risk of tipping.
- Power Connection: Connect the power cord of the soldering station to a suitable grounded electrical outlet.
5. Operating Instructions
- Power On: Turn on the soldering station using the power switch, typically located on the side or rear of the unit. The digital display will illuminate, showing the current temperature or a default setting.
- Set Temperature: Use the UP and DOWN buttons (usually indicated by arrows) to adjust the desired soldering temperature. The temperature range is 150°C to 450°C. The digital display will show both the set temperature (Soll Value) and the actual tip temperature (Ist Value).
- Heating Indicator: An integrated LED on the display will indicate when the heating element is active. It will typically blink or remain lit until the set temperature is reached.
- Tip Tinning: Once the desired temperature is reached, lightly tin the soldering iron tip with a small amount of solder. This helps protect the tip and ensures efficient heat transfer.
- Soldering:
- Clean the tip on the damp sponge before each use.
- Apply the hot soldering iron tip to both the component lead and the PCB pad simultaneously to heat them.
- Apply solder to the heated joint, not directly to the iron tip. The solder should flow smoothly and create a shiny, concave joint.
- Remove the solder wire, then remove the soldering iron. Allow the joint to cool naturally without disturbance.
- Power Off: When finished, turn off the soldering station using the power switch and allow the iron to cool completely in its stand before storing.
6. Maintenance
- Tip Cleaning: Regularly clean the soldering tip on the damp sponge during operation to remove excess solder and oxidation. For stubborn residue, use a brass wire tip cleaner (not included).
- Tip Tinning: Always tin the tip with fresh solder before storing the iron to prevent oxidation and prolong tip life.
- Sponge Maintenance: Keep the sponge damp during use. Replace the sponge when it becomes worn or heavily soiled.
- Tip Replacement: If the soldering tip becomes excessively worn, pitted, or no longer accepts solder, it should be replaced. Ensure the station is unplugged and cool before attempting tip replacement. Refer to Weller's official documentation for compatible tip models (e.g., S31).
- Unit Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the soldering station with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the unit is unplugged before cleaning.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Station does not power on. | No power supply; power cord loose or damaged; power switch off. | Check power outlet and connections. Ensure power switch is ON. Inspect power cord for damage. |
| Soldering iron not heating up. | Iron not properly connected; heating element failure; incorrect temperature setting. | Ensure iron cable is fully inserted. Verify temperature setting is above ambient. If problem persists, contact support. |
| Solder does not flow well / Poor joints. | Tip is dirty or oxidized; incorrect temperature; old solder; improper technique. | Clean and re-tin tip. Adjust temperature. Use fresh solder. Review soldering technique. |
| Temperature display is erratic. | Sensor issue; loose connection. | Check iron connection. If problem persists, contact support. |
